Why is it that timed qualifying in practice decides your gate pick in both motos? I can see the first moto, but the second moto gate pick should be your first moto result.

I was just wondering that myself. Another thing, why not let the slower riders have the smoother track of the first practice and the faster riders have the rougher track of the second practice ? Mix things up a bit.

Look at how much it hurt Short this weekend. He had last gate pick both motos! It's just not right. Every other race in motocross is the right way, how come the best races are messed up????

Good thinking,But the fast riders would bitch and moan that they should go out first!

nobody should get to run qualifying on the fast track. One practice untimed for everyone. Then time it.

They could use a loop hole clause in case someone blows a motor about placement based on first practice times...(like the top 10 rule).

If Short had a good gate pick, but DNF'd the first moto, you'd be saying the same thing about the alternative system. Fact of the matter is that what happened to Short was an anomaly in the system, usually the faster riders end up in front and therefore have a good gate pick for both motos, which makes more sense. The issue at Southwick was that the track was a highway for the first practice, which made for an uneven spread in the qualifying between the faster and slower riders.

It's similar in GP's too...... qual race on Sat decides gate pick for both motos on Sunday

I think the timed qualifying for both motos is the fairest and best way to handle gate picks. Also think they should go one step further and bias the gate positions so that one side has a better shot at getting to the first turn first. That makes it safer for the top guys so they don't have to deal with less experienced riders. I think they do that with the GP's but not sure about that...

This would be my choice on how to do it. Only maybe make the qualifying practice the 2nd one.

So basically you wanna screw the privateer riders that don't have the Ryan dungey or pc bikes even more? If anything give a bonus to the fastest qualifier and then go backwards in lining up. The slower guys should have a little advantage. I think the way it is now is the best way to do it. Kinda gives everyone a little more incentive to qualify better IMO. Right now if you just mess around in qualifying then it will screw your whole day
