Hey guys......

I have been off the bikes for a good 4-1/2 years now. And was just getting ready to pick up a 2008 CRF 450 , but decided to hold back for a little while until I could test ride a new YZ450F.

Well , my chance is coming up here in a couple weeks finally. Did you guys see of feel a big difference between the 09' and 2010 bikes at all? Just wondering if you could feel a difference in the way the motor sits in the frame and stuff?

I have owned and raced Suzuki's in the early 80's , then switched over to Kawasaki's from 85' - 2001. Then switched over to the Honda's in 2002 - 2005 right before I got hurt and stepped away from the sport.

The Yamaha's are the only bike I haven't owned.....But those new YZF's just give me a fuggin' hard on!

Anything i should be aware of before I ride one? And if I end up getting one , is there any special things on the bike i may need to change or keep an eye on for maintenance besides the normal stuff?

Thanks dudes.

Wat up jeffro503, my riding buddy has had his new yzf 450 for about 3 months now, he s like 6 3 210lbs, loves the bike got his suspension done and put a fmf 4.1 pipe on it and then had it mapped. sof ar so good depends on your weight skill level etc! The 08 honda is a great bike some people don t want efi but his bike rips, i had a 07 crf450, and the yammy is a better bike IMO His bike is in a ad limited decals.com #740Blue yammy black wheels. Depends on your budget too, and what you plan on doing, the crf is gonna be 3 years old buts a great bike and the 2011 450 yammy is the same as 2010 Good luck man when you decide maybe some pics?

Thanks Mxb! I just did a bunch of reading about the bike and watch a ton of videos and so forth , and now I'm more even jacked about getting one HAHA!! Like I was saying , I never owned a Yamaha before , BUT.....I did have a friend of mine back in 02' lend me his YZ426 and 250F for about 3 months while he was off doing other things. I never raced either one of them , but did a lot of riding on them......and I really liked them.

One thing that gets me is , they say the 2010 steers a lot better than the previous models.....which blows me away honestly. I got to do a few laps on a 2006 YZ450F right before I got off the bikes for good , and I had never ridden a bike that cornered that well. And the 2010 is supposed to be a better turning bike.........Sure i'm going to dig it.

I have pretty much made up my mind for now , but still going to test ride one here in a couple weeks to be sure. Then i'll hop on down to the bike shop and pick one up.

As far as what I plan to do with it. I'll mostly just be a professional practice rider with a few races thrown in every once in a while. I want to get back into training kids again as well........as i really miss that part of MX. I love them kids man!

Probably do some VET stuff and maybe some indoor riding this winter. It sucks I'm starting out so late this year , but I had my money tied up into other important things.....but the timing is right now for me to get back on one.

I'm so excited about getting on a bike it's unreal!

Yamaha guys are using the tuner made by yamaha check like GYTR .com and my bad my buddies bike #720 on that graphics site , his bike turns good once set up but noty like my 09 rmz 450 LOL! Go like suspension set up is key because hey are set up for maybe dudes up to 190 without changing springs, i m an old vet rider too man so what do i know but i love the sport! What pipe you gonna use stock , aftermarket? His bike is like my rmz heavy to put on the stand but once riding it does nt feel that heavy. He wushes he would have gotten the whote version because he wanted black wheels, and the blue plastic creases with white streaks once you crash, but thats repairable with a heat gun. The white is easier to clean and looks better after a while believe it or not, The tuner helped the bike rev longer and with the pipe it revs forever now I love my zook but that yammy is a bad MOFO LOL! Really depends on your budget the parts for that bike are endless a great bike IMO! Also he wishes he would have gotten radiator guards cause when he crashed he jacked his up and the part was backordered since the bike was just realeased, but i think parts availability are not a problem now GOOD LUCK BOSS keep us posted on the new bike be safe and have fun.

Thanks again for all the info Mxb! I'll check into the GYTR IGN timing thing and see what works best for the way I ride. I go any where from 185-205lbs depending on what kind of shape i'm in. Actually....the 205lbs is when i'm in really good shape.....since i can usually only gain weight from lifting and strength conditioning. So those stock springs may work , or I may take the suspension to TBT and have them re-do it for me if it doesn't feel quite right.

I was racing 250 INT , +25A and +30A when i stepped away......I don't know where exactly i'll be at now. But honestly , i just want to ride again , have some fun and put down some fast practice laps. I've never been off a bike this long before , so it's going to be a whole new experience on one of these new 450's.....and i'm really looking forward to it.

Good choice in suspension, I had Travis from TBT (So.Cal location) do a KX450 (KYCool and that bike was the plushes suspension I have ever ridden. Try the stock suspension first on this '10 YZ450 it is pretty good stock, the GYTR power tuner is very easy to use,and on Yamahas web site they have maps already made up that can give you a start, then you can play around with diffrent settings from there.the stock mapping you will notice the bike is a little jumpy on the first 1/4 throttle,it may take some getting use to. I geared it down a little and put a 50t on the back that seems best for me. This bike feels light (on the track) ,turns great, does not wear me out as fast, and so far been bullet proof 26hrs on one, and 94hrs on another. Good luck!

Awesome Buggs....thank you! Good to know Yamaha has different map's on their website. I haven't ever owned or ridden an EFI 450 yet , so it's going to be an all new experience for me. Not sure i'll stick with the stock pipe and silencer either just yet , as I'll have to see what it feels like after I play around with the mapping. I know i could shed an extra few pounds off the bike , and maybe make the power a little more manageable with an after market , but i'll push the stock stuff pretty good to see what happens.

Thanks for all the info.

What up jeffro503, buggs gave you some good tips, when your stock chain and sprockets wear out go 50 on the rear, and if you don t wanna to buy the tuner some upper end mechanics and suspension guys have them in their shop and you tell them what you want, it will save you $300, and also the efi is real responsive, don t get whiskey throttle LOL! i came off a 07 crf50 to a 09 rmz throttle response is great i have my zook mapped by yosh, with a fmf 4.1 megabomb and 51 tooth reat and the bike is nite and day from stock and the stockbike is pretty good! If you have the money a pipe is great IMO for the yamaha fmf, dr d, are the best but i have read good things on yje pro circuit and new yosh rs4 they are all good and save weight, better powerrange, and sound SICK! Good luck man.

they updated the valve cover gasket for 2011.
I dont have any complaints about the 742 up front or the DID chain. It all works for me.

Well guys.....yesterday afternoon , I called Power sports in Oregon city , and put my deposit down on their last 450 they had.....and it's the white version like I wanted to get!!

WOOHOO!!

Should be able to pick it up in about two weeks or , and then i'm back riding again after 4-1/2 years.

I may end up replacing the chain before I even ride the dang thing. I usually did that on every bike I bought , because the sprockets would hold up so much longer with a HD chain. Seems like all the stock oem chains are junk.

Front tire.....what does it come with stock?

I haven't ever owned a Yamaha before....But i can tell you , I can't friggin' wait to ride this thing!
