Had a thought, and maybe it's been brought up and shot down before.

Theirs been a lot of talk for rider safety regarding lights before the triples, red cross flags and all that. Some people suggested in ear communications, which is an option. Now they have green lights on the forks to signify the leaders, so how about mounting LEDs on the bars, and have them flash red when their coming up to a red cross flag? You could even have them flash Blue to help with blue flag situations as well if you wanted.

It shouldn't be that complicated to implement. I mean, there's always a chance they crash and it breaks, so you keep the flaggers, but this could be in addition to that.

For about the past 15 years, I've floated around a similar strategy with DC, Ayers, Mike P, and also several management people at FELD.

Each bike could have a battery-operated  digital display mounted on their bar pad. It is basically like a generic iPhone watch.

The device would be synced with AMA Live Timing, and it will display the individual rider's lap info, which would eliminate pit board messages from mechanics.

Additionally, the devices could be pre-programmed to display colored LED lights, which would informs riders when they are approaching an area with yellow/medic/blue/red/etc flags currently being waved.

I thought I gave a slam dunk presentation. But nobody showed interest -- instead they pretty much argued that it would be a waste of time, money and resources. 🫤

I figured I couldn't be the first to think of it lol. Sucks they won't give it a try, seems like an easy test and honestly can't be that expensive relative to everything else. And you could try a few on Futures if you wanted, or press day or something initially with a few guys. Oh well, maybe some day they'll come up with something better.

Forcing the rider to be accountable for monitoring a bar mounted device seems dangerous to me.

The AMA would say how much is in it for us?

Instead you're forcing them to monitor often sub par flagging stations?
