Never saw a '79 model at a dealer or on the racetrack back then. Like to have one of these below although parts would be heck to find...
This to men are former employees from BULTACO and have a lot of passion on their work.
I dont know what the 1979 works bikes looked like.
Pomeroy I think rode an '80 prototype 250 after his Honda ride; the bike was not reliable at all. Not sure it was '80, but Bimbo retired afterwards. RIP my friend.
I could never understand they had watercooled Metrallas and never tried to incorporate them in the Pursang line. And their 60 day top/bottom end warranty. Those '78s had a bulletin on seizure problems, especially the 250s. Remember calling the head of Bultaco East and he admitted all the top end kit and rebores were costing them a fortune since many motors were seizing before the warranty period was up. Even the shop owners son, an expert, gave up on his 250 Pursang and went to KX 250s(dad owned Kawi/Bultaco franchises). Family dropped the Bultaco franchise the next year, so I never saw any '79s in Northern California. Many that kept their Buls put 370 motors in 'em since they were reliable and had good power without the reed addition.
Too bad; the bike when running handled dawg gone good.
I've been looking for a '78 like the one I had in that pic and a 125 Pursang '72-up....think that's a hard find; can't even get a bite. E-bay had one or two...if you love Alpinas, all over the place as are Sherpa Ts....
How is parts availability for the old Pursangs?
I wish I still had it too.
Friend of mine built this
Check out the motor
That's the Ol' Gal....the bike that got me started on this vintage illness almost 30 years ago. Thanks for posting that !
Here in Spain there are some good MK15 replicas with YZ490 engines...
And also a MK15 in the "made in Spain" museum...with special suspensions for...a posible test with Pomeroy?
I've got a pair of Simons forks and a pair of Fox shocks still hanging in my garage. Maybe got them from you too. I loved the sound of that 370. The Mikuni let it idle at 500 rpm. With the worn out silencer it sounded like a string of M80s going off in a sewer pipe. Happy New Year buddy!
Pomeroy's old ride . . .
