I I know with football, baseball, Nascar, and even Supercross, they usually post the attendance for the event. I was wondering what the attendance figures are for outdoor MX cause it doesn't seem close to the SX attendance, but this is just my take.

The race in Thunder Valley look like the attendance was small, but I wasn't there. I only saw what appeared to be small from the TV screen.

Is attendance down at all outdoor mx races ? I know at Unidilla, it wasn't like it was in the early 90's, let alone the 70's during a Trans-Am race. That place used to be packed!

I miss the chanting of the"THE OTHER SIDE SUCKS!!" and all the other antics that went on in the 70's. That was a great time and the announcer calling everyone "TURKEYS" was just priceless. Who announced there throughout the 70's anyhow?

My brother said the parking area was 1/2 as full as in the past. They do have some new parking areas opened so he couldn't be certain, but it was definitely down.

I went to both Budds Creek and Mt. Morris and turnout looked light at both those races.
I watched the Sprint Cup race yesterday and noticed a lot of empty seats there too so it's not just MX that is having low turnout.

There's probably a lot of us who used to drive 12-15 hours to watch a race that aren't doing it right now because of money....

That and after three times to Thunder Valley my wife refuses to go play mountain goat in the the heat and dust any more.

I was wondering myself what the total count was at Freestone. It sure looked like a nice crowd there.

Its hard to say but is it the economy or the Saturday races keeping spectators away? It appears to me that the promoters are loosing their asses for the 2nd year. How long can they afford to do this before going belly up?

I live about 4 hours from Budds, Unidilla, and 3 hours from Mt Morris. Also about 5 from Southwick. I don't go anymore either, as the day seems to be really long sitting on the grass with my kids and wife saying "When are we going home?"

Plus, the track just don't have the same "ambiance" as the old races. Tracks are smooth and whatnot.

Maybe they make up for it in TV?

I lost all my respect for the NPG when they paid a 4 wheeler guy $5k to win a race in 08 at Steel city the same day Stewart won both motos to sweep the nationals. If memory serves me correct, J$7 made 1525 per moto for a 3050 dollar payday, not included bonuses from sponsors.

I'll say it again,. That is like paying the warm up band more than the Rolling Stones! I for one felt like my riders that I watched got shafted. That is just my opinion, and they lost a lifelong attendee for the nationals.

I did go to Indy this year for the 1st round f SX, and my boys loved it and they had a large crowd (like 60Kplus) It was a good show too!

That is warped...quads aren't motocross anymore than the Baja 1000 is motocross.

Attendance was definitely down from years past this year. Still a good showing & a ton of fun. I think the moving from night back to day might have had a lot of people confused. Seem advertisement wasn't on TV all that much here either for it. Granted I don't watch a ton of TV.

I have not gone since 03 or 04, it was RedBud. The reason is you can't see shit with all the banners and the day just drags on, good luck getting your girlfriend to go the 2nd. time. (lol)

I like the Saturday races. It gives you a day to recover/relax before starting the next week.

Saturday was a consideration primarily for racers, making it a (wink, wink) win/win situation for all.

ThunderValley seemed considerably lighter in attendance this year. I talked with a lot of guys that said they were saving it for the MXDN. Some vendors seemed to be thinking the same way.

Personally I really enjoyed the night race and was bummed that it didn't continue. All those lights are expensive though...

I guess you aren't watching on TV either. Leave the wife at home.

X 2. I think with the kind of money you have to throw down at mxdn, people are saving for that. Lakewood was light in the morning with the die hards, but looked like it filled up alot once the racing got going.
...and that track was pretty f-ing rough in my opinion.

Sounds like alot of complaining.
1. The day is too long? WTF? What are you doing that you can't spare a day for the sport you love?
2. Tracks too smooth? What the hell does this have to do with your experience at the track? Good racing can occur on a smooth or rough track.
3. Wife is bored? Leave her at home. I do. Don't ruin something I love with your complaining wife.

I think the economy hasmore to do with attendance than anything. Try carpooling, sharing rooms or whatever. 5 of my buddies drove 5 hours for Hangtown and it was pretty cheap. Get off your fat ass and support the sport.

The bottom line is money. If the shops aren't selling bikes and the promoters aren't selling tickets, the price is too high.

Washougal always seems to be packed. Atleast horsepower always is. When i started going in 97 you could find places all over to sit on the hill. Last year, even in the shitty economy, it was shoulder to shoulder.

I live about 2 1/2 hours from Millvile and we were thinking of going. for a family of 5 to go on Saturday it would cost us $160 in just gate passes and then we also have to pay for parking, about $20. If we take the camper it is $53/night. I then have to take the day off and pay somebody else to work that day. Plus gas and $4 pops and $5 hot dogs... I think I'll pass again this year. Pricing themselves way too high. Now if there were better pro payouts I wouldn't mind as much.

What do the pro payouts have to do with how much you spend? How much do you think it should cost for a family of 5?

Wonder how this Saturday shit is working out for the track owners? Doesn't seem like it would even pay to have a National with about 3000 spectators. But as long as everyone that is for Saturday racing can use the economy as an excuse, it's all good I suppose.
Brilliant !

What race has only had 3000 spectators? Not counting the USGP Whistling

I don't mind paying more for something if it goes to a good cause. Me personally, I don't want to spend $350 to just go and watch something. It costs that much to take my boys racing for a weekend and they enjoy that.

For the cost I don't know how much it should cost... $20/person??? The cost is all the added bs they get you for. The high costs of concessions.. That stuff just gets old being gouged all the time. I live in a tourist town and I get tired of paying high dollars for everything. I went to the airport last week and got a pop.. $2.50.. Just my personal rant!

It is going to your cause, for you to be entertained, you decide if it is a good one or not. Correct me if I am wrong but the payout is not determined by how much they make at the gate or in concessions. If it did depend on that and you felt strongly about it you should go and spend more money so the pot is bigger.

Do you go to other sporting events? Special events? Movies?
