Hey guys. So just picked up a 23 yz450f with 17 hours on it. Rode it about 3 hours now and just had it shipped down to Florida from New Hampshire. Was racing at Tampa this past weekend for the first ride after shipping and mid moto the bike just cut out like it was out of gas or something. Checked the gas, it had a full tank and then tried starting it and nothing. Walked it to the track exit and tried to start it again and it fired right up a minute or so later. Rode it back to van and put it in neutral while it was running and it just stalled out. Let it sit for a couple hours and it ran fine again after around the parking lot and idling on the stand. My thought is on the shipping down here it was exposed and it got some rain on it. Possibly getting water in the connections and causing some electrical issues.

The light is going orange on the map switch. Which per the manual says flashing orange means check electrical parts. But this orange light is solid and it comes on when you touch the starter after it’s been sitting. Checked the app and no code. I went through and di electric greased everything under the seat including the ecu and still the problem persist. Another user on here said might be the kill/map switch gone bad or the water temp sensor. Not sure on the kill switch being bad because the only happens when the bike is hot running about 10 minutes from cold. Once the bike is warm and starts cutting out, I start it right after and it runs for a second and then won’t start for another 5 minutes. I’m guessing it runs again after cooling down but then when it does, it runs for only another 5 after already being hot. So possibly a water temp sensor? Would that cause it to shut off if it thinks it’s overheating and to hot?

Just wondering where I should go now in this electrical system after Di electricing the ecu and under the seat connectors. Thanks

If the fuel pump is failing it would get worse when the bike is hot. Might be worth checking.

My fuel pump wire was falling out from the previous owner and kept falling out of the connector. Had to make my own wiring harness piece to fix it. But there’s a good chance yours isn’t that. Obviously the kill switch and the thermostat sensor can go bad as well. So possibly start there. Here is a link to a post I made in a FB group that people had some more possible issues that it could’ve been.  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/179opaPPrL/?
Hope that helps man!

I saw a newer Yamaha that cut out quite a bit from a missing gas tank vent hose.

I also saw one where the map switch had a loose connection and caused it to switch between maps back and forth very quickly.  Obviously it ran very strangely.

I would double check to make sure you don't have a wire where the insulation is skinned off or a bend that is causing a loose connection.
