Yamaha Power Tuner App

Hi,

Does anyone know if yamaha has a slider in their power tuner app to reduce engine braking?   How much can you reduce the engine braking via a map on the yamaha?   I know ktm has a slider for it in their app.   I'm currently on an older yamaha (2017) and trying to decide between yamaha and ktm.   I would like a bit of a more free rolling bike with more mid to top power.  I'm a taller rider and looking for a better rider triangle too.

thanks

Have you tried going 1-2 teeth smaller on the rear sprocket?

He's trying to decide between 2 brands for a "new" bike. I think that the gearing on his current model is irrelevant to his question. Especially when the newer yz's are known for a little more engine braking than other brands.

I count 5 questions, although some are written as statements.

1. Does anyone know if yamaha has a slider in their power tuner app to reduce engine braking?
 2. How much can you reduce the engine braking via a map on the yamaha?
I know ktm has a slider for it in their app.
3. I'm currently on an older yamaha (2017) and trying to decide between yamaha and ktm.
4. I would like a bit of a more free rolling bike with more mid to top power.
5. I'm a taller rider and looking for a better rider triangle too.

I think changing the current gearing could be a solution to get you what you want, less engine braking and more mid to top power.

Wouldn't that be awesome if the problem was solved with $45 instead of $10000?

Yamaha did not introduce the power tuner app on the yz250f until 2019.

Thanks for the replies.   I didn't word that question very well.   I'm thinking about my next bike.   I was hoping to find a bike with a bit less engine braking and more free rolling if that makes sense.  I know ktm and yamaha both have apps to tune the engine so was wondering if you tune the engine braking out of each if they are about the same.    We can't really get test rides where I live and no bike days so I'm left trying to glean information from the internet.

In regards to the engine braking specific setting with yamaha, I do not believe it exists. There are certain maps and settings however that do reduce engine braking and give the bike more of a free flowing feeling when chopping off the throttle. You can reference ML's 2025 YZ250F review on the home page from earlier this morning. He speaks directly to this.

Thanks for the video!  It looks like lots of youtube video reviews are out on the 2025 yz250f and they answered by questions.   Sounds like the yamaha still has quite a bit of engine braking and you still have to short shift it as in the past.   I was hoping for a free rolling yamaha with longer gears lol.   Darn I may have to go orange lol.

Keefers feel free map eliminates a lot of the engine breaking. We have the 2025 model

I'm really old Bro.   I'm not sure a 2 stroke screamer would be a good decision but then again riding and racing at my age is already a really bad decision lol
