In F1, the promoter pays huge sums of money back to the teams which perform (score points).
So those teams can pay big incentives to the drivers out of that promoter-origined money.
The MXGP system has nothing to do with that, the money goes one-way only.
There is only, as you described, a year end constructors purse
Again, there is a huge purse to the Teams (we're talkings dozens of millions of $$$), secretly but precisely defined in the successive "Concorde Agreements" after, each time, months of dealings between the governing boby (FIA), the commercial rights holder and the participating teams.
The Concorde agreements define how those entities share the commercial success of Formula 1.
The last Concorde agreement was signed at the end of 2009 and lasts until end of 2012.
Obviously (coming from the promoter but not set by him), a share of the F1 money somehow goes to the driver, depending on his personnal contract with the team and it has to do with his personnal results, which makes it close to the definition of "purse" (much closer than "no purse whatsoever" anyway !).
MXGP's have none of that stuff (negotiations, stability, distribution of revenue from commercial success, etc.).
Using the Formula 1 example to justify the MXGP's lack of purse is ludicrous.
