The deal was swapping some Banshee pipes and a little cash for........
wait for it.......
'96 KX500 (the purple tank one). Bike looks solid except for the bad crank seal (mag side) - hence the "engine in a box". Looks like I'll need another set of Ankle Saver Pegs!

The only real nasty thing to deal with is the crank. The bike was 100% when one of our techs got it and he did the tear-down so I doubt I'll find a huge pile of issues on the re-build, aside from the crank. I'm doing the bearings too as long as I have to do the crank seals. The jug was re-sleaved to an iron bore so I can still go oversize on the piston if I have too.
I decided to get this as a bike for ice ovals, rather than dump $$$ in a 1998 4-stroke trying to get more power. But you KNOW Sugar Camp (big outdoor sand track) will be on the schedule first......to, you know, "break in" the new bearings......."ahem"......
Check this out too: http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php?topic=3277.0 Gotta do it. Just looks too cool.
