Whatever tip comes with that detail gun is fine. Do not get caught up in that conversation. I have sprayed for years and years. Airbrushing was the only medium that I concerned myself with different needles and tips.
The detail gun will have fan and volume control. You spray at low pressures. Maybe 25lbs or there about. I have a regulator on my detail gun I can adjust the pressure. It’s not attached to the detail gun as dedicated. It has two quick releases on it. The air hose plugs into that and then that attaches to whatever I am spraying with.
Use lacquer thinner as cleaner and wipe down. I rarely use it in that fashion as a wipe down. I normally wash parts with water that is then dried thoroughly. I never touch a bare part with my hands once I done with that.
I sent you through PM my primer I wrote on using Cerakote. Too long to clutter up your thread here.
wow, that's a very kind offer, you're a great guy!
Dan, if you don't varnish it in the end, you just have to be a little careful.
I've several raw pipes and they look like the first day. Clean them often, do not let the mud get stuck on them, once you wash them, dry them well with an air compressor, and once they are dry, apply a layer of wd40

This is what I love about the Moto community is guys like WFO
Alright awesome I really appreciate that, I’m going to have a read and I’ll shoot you a message back.
I always had good luck with that sort of routine. And if they started to spot rust I would use scotch brite with WD-40 then dry the pipe with a paper towel. I used to live on the west coast and rode a lot of dunes back when I had my last CR with a raw pipe, so it was easy to maintain. But living in Florida with the humidity is a whole other problem.
last bike for reference:
"But living in Florida with the humidity is a whole other problem."
Dan I live close to you, I had a raw HGS pipe and silencer flash rust from sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. The humidity is insane. That cone pipe looks amazing though.
Where you at man? I’m in the panhandle
DM’d you
Alright guys, it’s been a long time since I made any progress or posted anything about the bike. Been getting ready for a 6 month deployment so family has taken precedence. I did get my graphics and number plate backgrounds in today though.
Also, I bought new hubs, rotors, and gold excel rims. Those will be laced this weekend so stay tuned and we may have a completed bike in a few days!
Starting to get some graphics laid on this afternoon, will post more as it comes together.
Looking good! I still ride and occasionally race my 96 when I am down in Florida. Keep an eye kn the swingarm weld just behind the cast portion, known to crack.

Building wheels currently, front is done and the rear will be finished tonight 🤘🏼
Sandman where do you normally ride at/what part of Florida? I’m up in the panhandle
I spend winters in Jupiter, south Florida , I ride Moto Bros, Mesa & sometimes Orlando Mx. I will try to hit some of the vintage races this year, most of their tracks are 2-3hrs north for me….
Looks a little goofy without the tires, but it’s starting to take form as a finished bike. Tires and graphics and it’s essentially done.

Little update 😁
Another update 👀
Finished the bike yesterday morning. Had to take it for a rip and make a turn track in the yard 😂
Well done, Dan. Glad to see you rip it, too!
Great work!!!
Great job Dan. I love the color combos brother. With all that time you put into her, along with some modern enhancements (forks mainly), I can only imagine how it sounds.
Quite jealous you’re already rippin on it…. Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate it man! It’s been a long process and a lot seemed to come together at the end. Based on what I’ve felt so far on the turn track I made in the backyard (shout out to my wife for being cool with it), it’s the best turning bike I’ve owned. I haven’t made any suspension adjustments yet because I had to leave, so the sag isn’t even set but it feels really well balanced. Super happy with the outcome.
