Hi, I am a huge enthusiast into motocross and I like to check out factory stuff and figuring out how it works and what is purpose of it. Recently I came across one picture of applied anti-mud foam on a rider helmet visor which is driving me crazy .. because I cannot figure out purpose of it. It is a transparent foil which is somehow held onto the helmet visor and the foam is sticked to it. What is purpose of the foil? Is it so riders can throw it away mid-race? Previously I have seen just foam applied right onto the visor.
Thank you in advance

The mud will stick a lot less easy to the foam, so there's less mud build-up which would make the helmet heavier.
I understand this part but why the foil underneath the foam?
