There is a facility in the USA that will Nikasil over an iron sleeve in vintage bikes so it can be done. I (and others I know) have used this place numerous times with no issues.

Are you guys sure the linings are cast iron? They look like plated pressed steel plate to me?
Ah ok.. i know it was not common in 1980, and by mid 80's it was.
Yes, steel , not cast iron, i was 6 beers in when i posted that. Brain fade.

$189.95 - $239.95
We use all sorts of coatings at work (aerospace) and i had never heard of that, every day is a school day.
How bad is the cylinder?
Lol 😂
Cylinder seems ok, its the exhaust mounting thats broken off and a few bent fins.
I'll take some pics tomoz although there is a bit of wear.
Wait till Russia shoot down that spy plane they havent got lol
Cool, i dont need one , but i will, i have been busy with other stuff the last few weeks , but i have to get ready for Farleigh Castle Vets in september, have yet to look at the 465 since i raced it over a month ago, will take that and both the 250's , if its muddy i wont have to wash them between races.
I'll be buying some more parts from Norway again shotly. Some are far to cheap or rare to leave behind and they dont show up very often on Ebay. They should help me along with buying the things i do need and get me a bit more mobile. Im currently taking morphine for my breathing and its the worst thing ive ever taken in my life. Its been a rearly big help when fighting to breath at times only the withdrawl symptoms are horrific, especially when i run out. I dropped the dosage from 5ml x 4 times a day because i just couldnt function, and went to 2.5ml x 4 times a day, but even that is almost as bad. Well last week i dropped it to 2.0ml x 4 times a day with the help of the doctor who prescribed me codine to take the edge off. After a week of the codine supliment ill cut the codine and just take the 2.0ml of morphine for a week and the week after drop it to 1.5ml along with codine for a week and contunue this routine until im off this completely. I found out from the doctor that they shouldnt have been giving me this crap for this length of time, it was only meant for one bad episode i had and once the morphine had gone that shouldve been it. 2 years later im still on it. SInce dropping this only 0.5 mil ive been out in the car to the supermarket the last few days. I really want to get back on my feet again and get the space-ship back where it belongs. Its been in storage for 3 years.
I removed the old throttle cable protector spring and replaced it with a NOS one i got from the Norway shop. Looks much better. Ive got 2 incase i need to fit another higher up. Looks a bit smarter.
i feel for you buddy..... that morphine is not good and there to easy the doctors here in the uk at just handing it out, 7 years ago my wife of 35 year went to the docs with a numb leg, mri scan showed a cyst on the spine cord, so in for a operation, told her 10 days she would be back on feet and work, put her on 100mg a day, then 3 weeks after told her it had failed and she wouldn't walk again, her family doc kept her on that for over 5 years, they were just handing out litre bottles like it was fizzy pop,and said without it the pain would be unbearable, she struggled pal with just daily life and the neuro pain, it took nearly a year for herself dropping month by month to 20 mg a day, then she swapped for the morph patches and weed, yes cannabis, since then, she lowered her self down on her patches and last year, come of the patches, she said the weed has more affect on her than the danger drugs, she has so much better quality of life now than she was taking it, i understand why they first give them heavy drugs at first but there is no excuse for them for the length of time, i hope that you dropping the amount improves your health, we are all here for a good time, not a long time....
ok back to that lush bike you building your doing a cracking job buddy, its turning in to a tasty build, i like the quality of work your doin, it will show in the finished product, can i ask why you are going so far with the oem bolts etc? and not just changed a lot of them for titanium? as id imagine there isn't much difference in price, also gotta say, that's a fooookin trick car you have lol
Hi mate, sorry about your wifes problem buddy, i bet that was fkn terrifying for both of you. I just cant function, how the hell ive got this far with the bike while still on this morphine is a miracle. I almost died in hospital, went down to 6 stone 9. Im 6ft 3. i went into hospital to basically die. Some miracle occurred and i pulled through it. Still not 8 stone yet so plodding on.
Im trying to keep it as near to stock with this bike, if i was using it it would be a totally different kettle of fish. I want it as close to how it was when it left the factory in Japan.
Now the Porsche is totally different. Its got 19 inch Porsche alloys, brand mew P-zeros, big bore, performance SS exhaust from headers to tail pipes, including a X shape cat, its being re-mapped next year to incorperate the exhaust, i bit of bodywork, want a genuine GT3 rear boot lid wing/spoiler, bit of interior work. Standard its 300hp, with this exhaust and re-map and engine work it should be rediculous lol. Standard its a 175mph car. Its also tiptronic.
Ive got 4 brand new P-zero's in the house and a brand new battery to go on. The engine is also coming out, im getting the specialisrs to do some work and fix the damage the local garage caused. They caused thousands in damage to it. Found out its what they do, they wreck your car then try to sell you another one. I caught them trying to blow my engine, caught them in the act. They sh** themselves. I went fkn nuts. They even damaged the mounts on a brand new rear bumper i just had painted, meshed and fitted. That was £1,000 that was. The bodyshop went nuts. The garage denied it.
Left half of the crank arrived. Just the new con-rod, piston and last bit of hardware to get now. I may get a fresh jug with this one being damaged. I'll just sell this damaged one on to someone with a TIG welder.
As for the Jug, i may just see if the repair cost is worth it first. Ive contacted a specialist so should hear back shortly with the verdict. Other than that damage its in rather good shape.
Pit Row
The jug will need welding, blasting and the lining stripped and replated to fit a standard piston and rings.
You're right Phil, cast iron.
The cylinder jug weld will cost about £50 and vapour blasting about £20. A re-bore is about £50.
Now ive got a couple of Mikuni 38 flatslides coming so ill be able to build a complete one. These both came off an RM465 so I'll vapour blast these and along with a service kit and a few new screws etc ill get the carb sorted.
You were right mate, these are cast iron.
The top one has no iinternals but has a bowl, the lower one is the opposite.
The carb im going to use arrived only the the jet ring is broken. If anyone has a spare please give me a shout.
I've started cleaning the carb body, removing the corrosion build up with a very small and fine wire brush and buffing pad. Its starting to take shape.
The top cable guide and nut need zink plating along with the screws and new geskets are needed for the top and bowl.
The slide and spring work ok.
Dont waste your time, buy a new one from Motocarb, no matter how many new bits you put in it, it will still be a 42 year old carb.
You will fuck more stuff trying to start it, than you will ever save, new carb and ignition is a must on an old bike, ask me how i knoiw.
How do you know? Lol
It's only for show really. Whoever buys it off my daughter can put what they want in it.
Been cleaning this up, its turning out ok.
