I don't even own a boat
Not too many ocean going vessels in Arizona, I presume
and you're the same people who scream about getting government out of our lives and back to freedoms and adherence to the Constitution
But you want citizens to have to carry a passport within our own country
Oh, and you're the same people who say a National ID is an intrusion on your rights and freedom
(BTW, National ID is the solution, I was waiting for someone to say it)
But of course, the objection is a National ID is a violation of your rights and freedom, but being forced to carry a passport within your own country and produce "your papers" to the authorities upon demand isn't
OK!!
If the state has set up its drivers license requirements correctly, as Missouri did (following the federal guidelines a couple of years ago), the drivers license serves as proof of legal residency.
The new Arizona law does not require law officers to determine citizenship. It requires them to determine legal residency. If you show the drivers license, you are proving legal residency.
Arizona also uses the new ID requirement for getting a drivers license: http://mvd.azdot.gov/mvd/formsandpub/viewPDF.asp?lngProductKey=1410&lng…
Therefore, showing an Arizona drivers license also shows that you have legal residency.
Unfortunately, if you are from one of the states which allows illegals to get drivers licenses because you don't have such a rule, Arizona cops will probably know that and might require another form of ID to prove legal residency.
