Police run checks on people without identification all the time. I was pulled over once with no DL. I gave the officer my name, address and DOB. He ran me and verified my information just fine.

It verified that I had a valid DL in AZ. Proof of residency is required for a valid DL in AZ. If I was residing here legally enough to gain a DL, then whether I'm a citizen or not is really not material at that point now is it?

As a boat captain I am required to carry a national ID card along with my DL, my Captains license and my fishing license because i am able to take people for hire outside the U.S. on an uninspected vessel. I get asked to show my documents very often. No biggie.

I have been asked to show my papers many times in mexico, I see no difference. In fact one of the last times I rode my bike was in Baja and we all had to produce papers in the middle of nowhere.

It's the point that it is not a big deal as people make it to carry an extra form of ID Dave. Your sig represents the original mindset of this country. It has been taken over by people who are afraid to do what is right if they have to man up and do something that might change thier pussyfooting walk through life. Its pathetic.

So we need a passport to transit within our own country.

and you're the same people who scream about getting government out of our lives and back to freedoms and adherence to the Constitution

But you want citizens to have to carry a passport within our own country

Oh, and you're the same people who say a National ID is an intrusion on your rights and freedom
(BTW, National ID is the solution, I was waiting for someone to say it)

But of course, the objection is a National ID is a violation of your rights and freedom, but being forced to carry a passport within your own country and produce "your papers" to the authorities upon demand isn't

OK!!

Not I, profile away I say. We have tried the other way and it is failing badly so some kind of change is needed even if it interfears with our golfing, expresso, doughnut loving country who blushes at nudity and cringe at cuss words that we made up. (I have been spending a lot of time with these Euros that ask me why Americans make a word like ass more powerful and offensive than the word butt. It's silly and weak to them. So I thought I would throw that in there.)Tongue

Man, you guys are stupid when you are trying to prove the wrong side of a debate.

If the state has set up its drivers license requirements correctly, as Missouri did (following the federal guidelines a couple of years ago), the drivers license serves as proof of legal residency.

The new Arizona law does not require law officers to determine citizenship. It requires them to determine legal residency. If you show the drivers license, you are proving legal residency.

Arizona also uses the new ID requirement for getting a drivers license: http://mvd.azdot.gov/mvd/formsandpub/viewPDF.asp?lngProductKey=1410&lng…

Therefore, showing an Arizona drivers license also shows that you have legal residency.

Unfortunately, if you are from one of the states which allows illegals to get drivers licenses because you don't have such a rule, Arizona cops will probably know that and might require another form of ID to prove legal residency.

So no one wants to add anything about the terrorists that are sneaking into the country through Mexico? Should we greet them with little goody bags and bottles of water? I want them to feel welcome before they blow our shit up.
