KX 125 2002 price? Newly renovated (rm 125 sold)

Edited Date/Time 5/31/2024 11:41am

Hi im wondering if this is a decent price for this kx 125 2002.It has been a show bike for a company here in sweden that also has a fully renovated motor, brake calipers, front and back hubs, öhlin suspension rear and renovated front suspension. It is at 2600 usd but if i could get it down to 2300-400 usd would this also be a decent deal? '

For reference a new sx 125 here in sweden is 9.8k usd

It looks like this was done correctly.  Id bet he has near or over 200 hours into this project. Attention to detail looks great and Id bet he has a lot of $ in parts and outsourcing, eg., suspension, etc.
This is/was a fun bike to ride. My friend had this same year and model.
If you don't decide to buy it, shoot me a pm.

or should I say these bikes were junk and this looks like a time bomb,  send me the sellers info though.  😎😂😂

That is actually a decent price, but you need to look at more then just the engine.  Forks, triple, steering bearings, brakes, rear linkage, hubs, wheels bearing... all those things probably should have been replaced at least once in the last 25 years.

what type of riding are you planning on doing with it?

Looks like a great deal to me but it needs the correct front fender and number plate something fierce.

I’ll play devils advocate. Unless this is a special/sentimental bike (year/make) I would look elsewhere. It looks like he did a nice job on it but it’s a 25+ year old bike that’s going to be harder and harder to source parts for.

True i might have to go see how hard it would be to get parts for it here in sweden.

As most guys on here would suggest, put the bike on a stand and try to wiggle the wheels side to side and see if there is any “play”.    Same with swing arm and then of course the triple clamps.

Id also say to check the pegs and the wear within them but it looks like new pegs.

compression check also.

keep doing your homework however.  Do what you are doing and getting advice.   You are being smart.

I did run Kawi’s of this era and enjoyed the hell out of them.

USD, I believe any 125 from mid 90’s up is worth 2-2500 if they are in respectable shape.

I love people that take pride in their bikes.

I could share stories with you.

Good Luck!!

Will do, not sure if i can do the compression test not sure if we have the tool at home if not I might just buy one to be on the safe side!

And ye I would rather wait a few extra weeks/months to be sure I get a good bike for the money im spending and then keep it in good condition!

And also thank you everyone for the input and help it is greatly appreciated.

I might just remove the graphics and ride it fully black since it is painted black as far as I know. Then maybe get bubbas 125kx plastics next year.

If I get it that is not fully sure yet some say its abit expensive but im probably going to have a look and see how it looks in person.

That’s going to be a hard bike to find certain parts for as well. Any Yz125’s in your area?

Realistically any running 125 from the late 90s-early 2000s is worth about $2000-$2500.  However, keep in mind that these are 25 year old bikes, and every component would have had to have been rebuilt or replaced at least once at this point.  You could end up having to invest thousands of dollars more over the next year just to keep it running.

Personally I do like these older 125s, I have had many, but I am also a motorcycle mechanic so I know what I am getting into.  I would not recommend an older 125 to most people, unless you like working on bikes and have other bikes to ride when its down.

87 to 07 cr125 bring more than 2,500. They were built with durability like no other brand. Find a low hr one and ride it 2 yrs with out nothing but topends. Look at the biggest 2-st race at foxhills its gates of cr,s.  Last I looked on fb there was the usual pack of 02-03,s.  A few 01,s like new those r slow but kinda neat.
