i must say that the jump he got hurt on DID NOT have to be that steep or angled on the incoming face. wtf are these track builder guys thinking? death defying obstacles need to be left to the FMX guys or something. I would even say the jumps on FMX are safer and more forgiving. this is the poosey bobbym chiming in again.....

Did you notice how sketchy it was for the lites guys to even double it? Anyone whos ever ridden a dirt bike befor clearly saw the lip was abrupt and asking for trouble.

SX shouldn't be tamed down, but it shouldn't have dumb jumps like that.

Yeah no doubt, very little landing area. Should have been addressed but the didn't. The landing ramp was as tall and pitched as a take off ramp. There is a reason why the landing of a tripple doesn't look like the take off from a tripple. The jump needed to be more forgiving.

Did anybody notice Dean Wilson airing it out there to pass Pourcel in the heat race? Very few 250s were pulling it off. Ballsy move for the kid.

Once again, different jump! I know its confusing since there were two sketchy triples leading into left hand corners on the track. The one Wilson passed Pourcel on was before the whoops. The one IT and RV crashed on (which I only saw Barcia doing during the main) was on the other side of the track.

Point is, both were bad and unnecessary.

Sorry, you have it wrong. The one RV and IT crashed on was the last jump before the 180 turn to the whoops. On the opposite side of the stadium was a rhythm section that included a table. It had a 90 degree left at the end leading to the section where RV took out RD.

You can notice how steep that thing is a lot more in the lites telecast. Reason I say that is because those guys were singling out from that "landing", and they were catching some serious air. Muy estupido.

Do you really think the design team doesn't have a clue on how to design a track, doesn't work with people in the know, and are trying to make these obstacles death defying? The angle of that jump wasn't any worse than several others that have been used numerous times. They altered the jump after talking with Reed, if that wasn't enough then maybe he or someone else should have said that more work was necessary. Are you going to blame all the crashes in the corners that happened on the track crew too?

Which question are you trying to answer?

When RV crashed it would not have mattered he was coming up so short. Maybe the track builders weren't expecting everyone to do it or anyone for that matter. These guys are very good and will try anything, no matter what they build. The track guys did shave down the lip a bit. I hate to see anyone get hurt, but a high speed crash is usually the reason that guys get hurt, not jumps.

One week you all bitch and say the tracks are too easy and everyone is doing everything and the next you bitch the track was stupid because it had something to challenge the riders.

Sure looked to me that the face and landing had nothing to do with the crash other than the fact RV got sucked up in the ruts on the take off. Isn't that what you guys here on VitalDrive call "real men's motocross", lots of rough and ruts? Also, are you forgetting that Villopoto tangled with Dungey earlier in the race and his steering was probably tweaked? Sure makes riding those ruts a bit more challenging.

Sucks people crash, but I think it proves 2 points...

1. Technical tracks can still be built to challenge these guys, even on 450s.

2. Technical tracks, especially when combined with ruts, will likely cause more guys to hit the deck.

What was even worse about this jump was the face of the take off jump had a kicker on the left side of the track and on the right side where RV took off from it didn't. I bet RV had the exact same approach speed when he came up short on the right side as he used to clear the triple when he hit it on the left side.

Do or die jumps need to be tamed down.

Yeah Barcia used that same line towards the outside with like 2 or 3 laps left and came up a little short, not Villopoto short, and his suspension handled it fine.

I saw many guys hitting the middle and right side throughout the SX class too. Looking forward to hearing RV's thoughts on what happened.

What? There were 4 or 5 Lites guys tripiling it with no issues.

This sport is dangerous enough without the wall of death if you come up 5 feet short . Its a fucking joke how dangerous these tracks are and how many top riders are out of the series . Tracks can still be made to be spectacular to the fans and safer for the riders , All its going to take is a few more dump trucks of dirt along with a safer design .
4/19/2010 11:47am
It's where the sport is at right now.

If it wasn't "dangerous", everyone would be doing it easily every lap.

I'm not sure what is better, an "easy" track where everyone makes it around safely, but nothing separates the riders and allows them to pass or a track that is challenging, allows passing, but causes guys to make mistakes and ultimately crash.

The takeoff wasn't in bad shape during the Lites main. It started really breaking down during the SX main. We were sitting 3 rows up right even with the takeoff of that triple. By lap 9-10 of the SX main it really should have been only used as the takeoff of a double-single.
