There’s lots of conflicting info regarding the crash.
Some are calling it a hard landing. Others are calling it a crash. Search and, Rescue is searching a mountainous area that was covered in fog. At this point, it’s unclear if he’s alive.

My 1st fall: fell down the ladder of of an A4 after too many hours…actually “slid” down that shit and the crew-chief said it “looked pretty cool”…still…I was numb and barely lucid. I was “done”. My 1st long active “zone” flt on The Scope. Took my shower and slept thru 10 hours of VERY active deck-ops.

Seems like a legit crash.. foggy conditions and mountainous terrain with helicopters are a recipe for disaster such as how the Kobe accident played out. Does not matter the skill level, once the visual reference is lost it's very unlikely the pilot will recover.
Or I could be wrong and that crash was planned.. who knows at this point.

Nothing wrong with low level flying in IMC conditions as long as the pilot is Rated for IMC and the machine has the required Avionics...such as H-TWAS or in layman's term, critical flight information systems.
Situational awareness, fly high and you will be safe.....as long as you are IMC rated. (instrument meteorological conditions)
These guys were probably under pressure from some boss in the back seat.
