When The Ryans get out early in the Main events together they usually are on another level then the Milsaps and Windhams. Daytona RV was 53 sec up on KW and 57 sec up on Dm --and 37 sec ahead of 3rd place TC38 --Toronto RV was 59 sec up on KW and was 30 sec up on DM before DM crashed out.--and 31 sec ahead of 3rd place TC38...
Both of those races were races when they both got around everyone early and ran their own paces.
I'm not saying that either of the Ryans are going to easily run circles around JS or Cr I just think the Ryans are faster then they're getting credit for because CR and JS aren't there. I like the rest of you can't wait for all the fast guys to be at the gate and see where everyone stands.

For heavens sake, it must be possible to obtain a chain in the US so we can see how fast CR is compared to the Ryans? Tongue

I remember in '03 @ Glen Helen seeing Ryno and Mike Brown battle and thinking they were pushing the limits. Then I saw Stewart return at Budd's Creek...he made the Ryno/Brown limits look like a trail ride...they didn't see him for the rest of the season.

Yeah, they Ryans look fast and I think they are, but I just need to see them all together, in shape, on the track. I'd be surprised if James comes back this SX season at all.

I wonder if you will be saying that if they are all on the gate and either CR or JS smoke your boy RV.

You do realize that each example you gave was one in which DM or KW both had horrific starts not even a top 10 right? There is a difference between getting a bad start when your in the top ten and still on a straightaway with someone compared to half a track behind. Example A/B: Stewart and Reed are the only two riders to come from dead last recently and finish on the podium.

What races are you using as your ExampleA/B? I don't doubt you, I just can't remember
the race, not in 09, maybe Reed in 08.

Didn't Reed catch Stewie from dead last last year in Pheonix ? Those two are on a different plant.

Yes --Lucky to make the podium.. Do all you guys forget he had problems beating Marmont and Reardon over in SuperX on the Kawi. In fact he lost one main event to Reardon..Then at the 1st two rounds of the ama sx on the kawi he didn't win either of his heat races. In fact he didn't come close to winning a heat. Then was running 6th in the 1st round before dropping out. Then at round two where he broke his hand he was riding around mid pack w/a hurt JS not moving up that fast before he went down. The guy did not look like himself on the kawi at all.. So he comes out and puts down 1 fast lap at Daytona and you think the old CR is back?? IMO he would be getting spanked by RD and RV if he didn't get hurt.
You're exactly right Dan, don't let these guys tell you otherwise. For whatever reason, Reed came into this series waaay off his game and wasn't gelling with the Kawasaki at all. It was obvious to anyone watching him on the bike. Specifically, his corner speed was a shadow of what it was.

However, the hand break and subsequent time off probably did him some good. He got his stomach thing cleared up, and he's probably had some extra time away from the races to dial in the Kawi more to his style. The Reed we've seen for the last month or so looks a lot more business as usual. He looks quick in all the vids and clocking the fastest time at Daytona with a broken thumb is pretty impressive.

If Chad can ride his best I think he can handle the Ryans. But I don't think he will be quite there just yet.

Mx558, no he didn't catch him from dead last. He started fourth, and uncle I was meaning no disrespect. I think ryan is awesome. I really like watching him outdoors. I think he is a staple to old school motocross. I am intrigued to see how everyone stacks up when a healthy two two comes back.

Phoenix 2009 JS and CR were .5 sec apart, JG in 3rd was 28 sec. back, RV, in 7th, got lapped, I think he fell.

A3, JS over CR by 3 sec. DM in 3rd, over a minute back. Ouch

My post above notes at A2, CR fell in turn one smoked the fielded to finish 2nd, 3 sec. behind JS( who looked off that night for sure). CR made up 10 to 12 sec on JS.

I think many people are waiting anxiously to see a healthy and happy chad. Last year we saw that for a few rounds riddled between with stomach ailments and bike issues. When both JS and CR were healthy last year it was awesome to watch Jacksonville and Salt Lake City.

In the most recent news that "I HAVE SEEN" CR has been doing a lot of testing on the Kawi. As far as how he will do, I think he will be just fine. At least a podium if not win. Can't wait I just want to see him back on the track.

Gotcha.

At A1 Chad was sixth fastest against a healthy field at 57.679...and less a second off of James Stewart's 56.820. He finished third in his heat behind Millsaps and Dungey, and then had his spoke problems in the main.

In Phoenix he was third fastest in qualifying at 53.365, against Stewart's 52.756. He finished second in the heat race behind RV, before he and James tangled in the main.

At Daytona he was fastest in practice, and about a half-second quicker than Dungey.

That's all we've had to see of him this year. The fact is, I think he'll be all right.
Didn't he lay down the fast lap at Daytona before they changed out that quad? Did everyone else have a chance to lay down a lap before they changed up the track? I thought that was how Pourcel and Reed got that fast lap.

Jason
Reed's fast lap was without the quad...
