I'm thinking of adding a Suzuki Sunburst decal on the rear fender. I can print one off onto a clear self adhesive waterproof sheet  I know it was fitted to the older bikes but it looks rather good.

You spent a gazzilion pounds on getting everything right, including a sprocket at £2.50 a tooth, and all the correct warning stickers, and you are going to put a sticker off another bike on it LOL.

You suvverners lol.

If you like it that much, build a 1974 TM400 lol.

Gaz, been following since day one. Commented once or twice, but I am forced to have to say on this particular question, I am siding with Phil.
I love the Sunrise decal/image.
But, not for this build.
Heck, the closest I come to owning a Suzuki is my hybrid XR200/1980 RM build. I can’t even own one that is 100%. But my favorite image of all time is the Suzuki sunrise.
Just not on this build based on the incredible amount of detail towards originality.

Hi and cheers mate. You're both correct. As much fun as decals are, they'll just spoil it. Infact I've also been having second thoughts regarding the front number plate black background and number 68. Plain yellow with a thin black border like the side panels. Not only that but the 81 had ' I think' a round or oval plate to start with.

Gaz

New swing arm bearings, spacers and seals are in. I've not pressed the inner bushes and seals in properly yet. I'll do that when I've got everything looking good. Rear wheel is paid for, should have it back next week along with my new swing arm pivot bolt. It's been an eventful day today.

I know it's a worx bike but an 81 with square number plate and looks like a metal tank.

Yeah, it was a factory bike, i think it had a single sided airbox as well.

Bikes changed at a rate back then , that has never been seen since.

Remember that Suzuki had never used the Full Floater in GP's , the 1980 works 125 was a water cooled twin shock bike.

I seem to recall that when the test guys finally let the racers loose on the 125X prototypes, Suzuki made the decision to delay the release of the 1981 models , so that they could make them a year early , but i never saw that in print anywhere since.

Square plates were an SX rule.

I'm trying to work out what tank he has. The forks are obviously not stock, you can tell by the clamps and the rear sprocket looks huge. This is an early 1981 RM465.

The front mudguard or fender I got is basically a 'Z' model or style.  The 'X' model is much rounder. Infact the 'X' model uses 4 spacers, 8 top-hat washers, 4 bolts and 4 lock washers.

Hi Phil, can you remember the thread size on the shock hose and thread length?

Cheers

The tank would be a hand made factory Item, they would do everything else, and build a tank to fit it.

Sadly i dont have my hoses here , so i cant tell you .

What i have realised is that one of my shocks was off a 250 as it had a longer hose, the reservoir was lower down under the rad on the left hand side.

No problem Phil, I'll dig it out and take the hose off. I got a bottom spring spinner from Crooks only it was way too big for mine. It said 465/250/500 etc only the 250 and 500 are a different shock. It's ok I can get this zink plated with it being a steel one.

I've asked a hose guy and he needs the attachment sizes.

Been drilling the bearing retainer screws with a 3mm L/H bit, still not shifting. I'm drilling a 3.3mm hole with a 4mm L/H tap or thread, then using a 4mm L/H bolt to get them out. It's a good job I've got new screws coming lol

That sounds like you have a 125 Shock, that is a lot smaller.

I bought a shock for my 125 that turned out to be a 250 shock.

I am thinking a Wibers unit might be the way forward

That's what I've been dreading.  There's a 465 shock for sale on Ebay, I may ask him for the specs. If its a 125 I'll be getting a new one.

Made a start on the rear shock absorber.  I tested the reservoir for gas and out it came. The shock is lifting up with some resistance but drops back down again on its own. Something isn't right with it. Needs a bit of spit n polish to make it look nice again aswel as a bit of anodised gold paint.

The nearest paint match for the shock body and reservoir is made by Tamiya models. Its champagne gold (PS-52)

Yes that would look really good. I've been cleaning off the old grime and scratches. So it doesn't look that bad when it gets serviced. It seems my split hose was only the outer covering as a good blast of nitrogen came out if the reservoir when I pressed the valve.  Its probably an internal fault although you never know,  could be as simple as low gas pressure. It didn't have a valve cap so someone could've been playing about with it.

It depends how much extra they'll charge to do it. The top with the adjuster wheel was also anodized so it will all have to come apart. I could try and gas it up first, see if it fixes the problem, if it does I may just paint and pretty it up a bit.

Slowly getting there. A bit more work and it should look really good.
