Getting on the TV plenty. Teams doing pretty damn well for their debut season on a debut bike.

Beta has one other feature that helps handling: the stepper motor idle control. It minimizes engine braking by keeping the throttle cracked just slightly when you let off before returning to the idle position. Really cool feature that I wish other manufacturers would use. 

We used to map this into our SM bikes, add a little fuel at closed throttle and the bike rolls like a bicycle, no weight transfer unless you brake.

So good that the first time i rode without it i highsided on corner entry , on a cold tyre. 

Little things help a lot.

That’s interesting. I’d heard engine braking could be adjusted with mapping but didn’t know how. So a bit of fuel is all it takes?

Essentially the stepper motor hangs the idle using a small amount of air when you chop the throttle to minimize engine braking. As I mentioned above at this time the maps have three settings, baseline, +100, and +200 rpm's.

Got that part. Looked like @philG was saying you could get similar results by adding fuel on decel.

Yes it works great , HRC were doing it on the MotoGP stuff 15 years ago before slipper clutches got to be fully electronically controlable. 

It was mapped to add fuel, and i think retard the ignition at lower revs on the Aprilia V Twins, so it rolled into the turns like a bicycle, Supermoto went from a 'drift it in ' job, to more about keeping the wheels in line, so while you can still get the rear light and slide it in, the lack of engine braking stops the front loading up when you chop the throttle, so you brake earlier and roll the turn more, without having a massive weight transfer. 

While you think you could just get the same effect by lifting the idle, it isnt the same, so it sounds like Beta have gone down a mechanical solution. 

My suspension guy is a Beta owner, he has 500 Enduro and says its awful for quitting at low revs, so it looks like maybe this is a solution. 

While everyone is nut hugging Triumph (me included) Beta have been solid in SX and MXGP, Ben Watson was properly on the pace in Argentina after struggling for power last year, both he and Ivo Monticelli were running well, Ben was in a great battle with Coldenhoff and Vlanndern, after briefly passing Herlings, you dont do that , especially round that track on a bike that isnt close, to being there. 

Nicholls will take a bit to ride himself back into form, but i think he will be decent by outdoors.
