I found an engine and it was seperated form it's frame long ago. So is there a way to decode the engine serial to determine the year it was made? It is TS1252-125678. I'm hoping it is one of the years the same engine that fits my DS, so I can use it for parts and keep my crankcase with the bike. Also I'm finding it difficult to find engine components for decent price. Are there any secret vintage sources out there?

Any Suzuki dealer will be able to tell you what year the engine is using the engine number. Sounds like it's a TS 125 engine from looking at the number.

As far as secret vintage sources: http://www.andersonvintageparts.com

They have all sorts of vintage Suzuki parts. You need to be patient when ordering from them though. It sometimes takes 3-4 weeks to recieve orders from them.

Good Luck!!

Well the seller on ebay never responded to me and then he "Went Away" and froze his account. Then I had a bright idea to build up a 100cc top end cause the parts are all over ebay for cheap. The junk yard quotes I recieved were 150-250$ just for the cylinder and head. Has anyone done this and experienced any issues. It should work because the crankcase #'s are the same for the ds/ts100 and ds/ts125 right. My only concern is how much I can have the 100 cylinder bored out. Thanks for all the links, found some inspiration.

The local dealer here in Raleigh Nc told me the engine codes were for Suzuki's use and could not be traced by them? I think they just did not want to try.

They just didn't want to try. The engine and vin number ranges for each model and year are listed on the microfiche for the older models. Not sure if that info is in the computer files they use now.
