I'm looking at these for mainly vermin control and also most likely some back yard bench shooting.
Anyone have any experience with these? Eg anything to recommend or avoid?
These these things have come a LOOOOONG way since the old level pump actions slugs guns I had as a kid.
I'm interested in the FX range but the are pretty expensive, not sure about pros and cons yet of stuff like bullpup etc.
We cant have any of the semi auto or auto stuff in Australia that's about the only caveat I'm aware of...apart from all the other things we need to be aware of here.
A kid I use to watch on YouTube had one that he would go deer hunting with
I was looking at the PCP’s myself not too long ago. After seeing the prices of the compressors and, everything needed to air them up, I settled for Gamo Magnum GR .22 cal break barrel. It’s fairly well built.
Depending on which grain of pellets you use, it’ll hit 1300+ FPS which is pretty close to rim fire velocities. I use heavier grain pellets though so it’s not as loud and, there isn’t that crackle breaking the sound barrier. The scope it comes with is “OK” but, I prefer the open sights anyways.
I understand you can get a scuba tank to refill?
That’s true. Not everyone has a scuba tank though. I have one which is why I considered a PCP. But, they also require adapters to be able to fill the tank to. Between scuba tanks, compressors and, even bicycle style pumps, there are ways to do it. I just ended up realizing a simple break barrel was more practical. 1200 FPS in .22 cal with 1” groups at 150 feet is plenty good for what I use it for. If I recall correctly it was only $275 a few years ago. It’s on sale now for $199

1300 !!!
That's way more than the tank ones seem to be hitting (I think...still new to this even though I had break barrel ones as a kid).
Edit: and to clarify, that would be too fast for me because although we have a fair bit of acreage I'd prefer to stay sub-sonic as Australia is mega nanny state when it comes to guns. Suppressors are also illegal here...and fun is also banned.
Okay so now this sort of stuff has been announced hot off the press within the last day or so.

Use a heavier grain pellet. It’ll slow the velocity down and, you’ll drop that crackling report.
The suppressor on it is just for show. Technically, you can own it.
Break barrels have also come a long way.
Another brand worth looking into Diana’s.
You can get .177 or, .22 cal.
FYI. Break barrels are way more quiet than a PCP.

Awesome thanks Chance. Very helpful information...as I've said I grew up with break barrels and they were never overly loud that I can remember.
Having no experience with PCP it's good to find out they are louder...there's a tonne of youtube on them but not much I can find un -suppressed.
All good man. I’ve had several pellet guns over the years. Mostly, break barrels. Although the PCP’s have caught my eye, it’s tough spending $1200 plus all the necessary pieces before you can even use them. Not to mention only having reviews from another persons perspective to make a decision off of.
