Yamaha whould be my second choice.

I am going to suggest a Mo-Ped as you haven't given any criteria for what you want to do...

Some good suggestions here especially if you can scoop a new 08 crf450r for 5 grand. send the suspenders off to MB1, Rg3, Enzo,FC etc. to setup for your weight/speed/ability/riding and live happily ever after. Best value currently being offered.

Then again that ktm 450sxf would bring a lot of dependable great rides your way. Five speed this year, electric start for when you need to pick it up after dumping it. The adrenaline is flowing to get back in the mix and presto pull in the clutch hit the button and your on your way. Best piece by piece quality components, finally WP suspension that works and that to die for listless no end hitless power that doesn't wear you out.

Not knowing your size/strength the KX 450f has a great engine with the best low end hit to get over the jumps with a phenomenal as delivered tuneup. If 5'9" or below the KX is tall and somewhat bulky handling with good suspension and once again an awesome engine.

The Yamaha has numerous revisions this year and seem to be working without faults only Yamaha seems to be able to get it right the first time. Not in the budget though as they are bringing list price. 09 will have you pining for the 10 in no time so best to buy low hour used 09 if considering the 10 then ride for a year a see where the pricing has gone on the 10.

The Suzuki as mentioned is a turning beast and has smooth power allowing lots of laps without tiring you out. Great Vet bike. They do have a resale value problem though so be sure to buy it right. Suzuki has been good about taking care of their warranty issues.

09/10 Honda crf450r will cost some bucks to get right and the power is down from the class leading sxf/kx bikes. So you need to add a $800 exhaust to get some over rev. and another $1000 on the suspension nah make Honda fix their mistakes before dropping that kind of cash on one.

money no object ktm/yamaha also most dependable bikes listed.
large rider awesome engine kx
vet rider long riding time rmz
best value great bike fix forks 08 crf450r
unlimited funds and want to fix a Honda 09/10 crf

of course these are opinions from a rider that is still looking for a bike to make me a rider
and others may vary. great suggestions so far guys!

From what I've learned by reading here on Vital it sounds like you get more bike for the money (or is it more pounds of bike per dollar?) with the blue one.

Doug as you can see I've owned all brands and loyalty seems to change with major updates done each year. My passion for many years were Honda cr's until the dreaded 97 aluminum frame came out. I then went to team green, then team blue, back to red and kept them for track and ktm's for offroad.

Hell I only own 2 red mxer's, 1 blue 2 smoker, 2-offroad pumpkins, 1-dual sport pumpkin, one hayabusa, and one gsxr. Never seem to be satisfied. Always working on and modding them to be the best they can while I should be hitting the gym making me the best I could be. A case of the lazies it's easier to tear apart and modify a bike then to devote to a training routine. This is my new goal now that I'm almost done with the changes. Just one more crf450 engine on my bench to overhaul for one of my friends that can't afford shop labor and I'll be ready for the spring training then the riding begins.

Many years of experience setting up bikes for the track and a couple of my buds have raced my bikes. When I'm rebuilding theirs they tell their group their riding a sponsored bike. Hard to get them back on their bikes after racing mine. So they start committing to have me mod theirs to match mine.

The biggest issue is the care the mc has seen and try to get ahold of a friend that has a group of local guys to try their bikes. You'll find some just seem to fit better then others even though the bars, pegs, seats can be changed to fit your build.

Good luck with your shopping and keep us posted on what color you choose.

damn long in tooth I need to stay off these boards and get back to work.

Thanks for the info Tom. When I get a bike can you maybe give me some tips or something to help me set it up?
