Hey guys, I have a 2021 Kawi 450 with about 100 hours and I have a new consistent issue I’m trying to sort out. On cold start, the engine fires right up and after idling about 15-30 seconds, basically when the cold start high idle would come back down to regular idle, it just slowly dies out. It refires immediately and runs good if you rev it and keep it anywhere above idle but it won’t idle. The engine doesn’t smoke at all or make any weird noises. The plug looks black and it really seems like it’s choking itself out like an old lawnmower. I have a 22 as well that I have tried to swap some stuff to try to isolate it. I tried the fuel tank, ecu, intake air temp sensor on the air box. Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before. I think my next step will be the throttle body assembly to eliminate the other sensors for the fuel system.

Does it run normally once it reaches operating temp?
Since it started doing this, I haven’t kept it running longer than a minute or so but it doesn’t seem to get better the more times I try it. After it dies, it starts right back up. Another thing I forgot to mention is that the idle knob doesn’t seem to affect the idle speed. I turned it all the counter clockwise which should be a very high idle and it didn’t seem to change
Did you ever figure out this issue?
I did actually. It turned out to be the cam chain tensioner failed. At low rpm the chain would float a little and change the timing just enough to let it slowly die out. Replaced cam chain and tensioner and it’s back in action
