Why does dg have such a bad name? everyone i know says dg is crap, but i dont exactly see why. I've only ridden like two bikes with a dg exhuast, so i'd like other people's input.

I don't know. They were big in the 70's and 80's.

The DG pipe and silencer I put on my 81 YZ250 did not fit very well and melted the side panel. Even had heat shield on the side panel. The pipe felt in a bind when you tryed to line it up and tighten everything down.Had to drill an extra hole in the silencer mounting tab because the one provided was about 3/8 - 1/2 inch off. To top it off, the sound was a little weird and the performance was non existent. I switched to a Pro-Form pipe and silencer which probably will set you back a hundred bucks more than the DG setup. Much better fit and finish, more of a handcrafted appearance, no mystery clearcoat that burns off half the pipe and is completely impervious to any type of chemical to remove it from the rest of the pipe, nice machined finish on the silencer, better sound and better performance. As for the better performance, I will say the Pro-Form is not much better than the DG on my bike, a little but not much. I've come to the conclusion that a stock cylinder'd 81 YZ250 is a real turd. It needs help and more than a pipe can give.

There do seem to be a lot of DG pipes readily available. If that's all you can find and the price is decent, then why not? Just don't expect to be overly impressed and everything will be just fine!!

I put a DG pipe and silencer on my 1983 YZ 125 and I didn't like the power output. The fit was okay but needed to be drilled to fit correctly and the clear finish burns off leaving a crappy finish. Would I buy another one? Probably because they are affordable and stockers are hard to find and when you do find one you get rapped. I just wish DG had a better performance.

I bought a DG pipe for my '83 RM125 and it simply did not fit the bike. I went back and forth with DG on it and they basically told me that I'm stuck with it because it had been longer than 30 days. (I was restoring the bike and had bought the pipe at the beginning of the process).

After reporting this bad fitment issue on here and pitracer.com many people told me they also had problems with the DG pipes fitting.

I ended up tossing the pipe in the attic and bought a Jemco pipe. Sweet, handcrafted cone pipe with perfect fit.
