Yeh yeh I know they were slow but... I always wanted one when I was a kid and now I have one to restore.

The bikes I restore for myself, I always return them to stock and never ride them but this 84 I am going to let my 13 yr old ride.

What I need to know... Did any of you have one of these and do you know any hop-ups

I can dig through my old MXAs but I am feeling lazy.

I do have a Krause Cone Pipe and silencer for it and also put a 1985 Front Disc on it.

I always liked the front wheels on those with the "Z" spokes.

Didn't the design lead to a lot of broken hubs?

The Z spoke thing was one of the bigest mistakes of all time, I worked in small shop where the owners specialty was building wheels, not long after those came out the boss would not rebuild them for anybody, people were bumed out when he would tell them they had to buy two wheels, hubs and spoke sets just to put the bike back on the track. I think we were ordering tt500 hubs from a previous year then sun rims and buchanin spokes. Funny thing is after Yamaha knew those wheels were junk they just kept using them.

I had a 83 with a CRF pipe and some minor porting. The thing hauled ass and always holeshotted. Handling and suspension? well thats a different story. I gotta find my old pics.
