Thicker head gasket for a stroker?

Wouldn't you need a thicker base gasket?

A stroker crank also retards your ignition timing.

Cometic will custom make an aluminum spacer plate for the base gasket(s) for about $20 if I remember right. You will need it and two regular base gaskets on each side of the spacer plate. With this setup, you will lose bottom end power because all of the ports will be raised up. The preferred method is to just send your head off to have 1mm cut out of it. Ideally, the cylinder should also be ported for the stroker kit also, but it isn't necessary.

We did one for a customer and just machined enough out of the Top of the head (combustion chamber) to make the piston fit.. if its a hotrods stroker crank its only +2mm, so there is only a difference of 1mm on your TDC. It also states on there website

My friend had an 02 RM 85 with a hot rods stroker crank in it, and it ran like crap because the addition of a stroker crank ment the timing needed to be adjusted (it retards the timing), so dont forget to do that.

There is two ways to do a stroker. One is a spacer plate that raises the cylinder to keep the port timing right . Two is to have the cylinder ported for the stroke and machine the head.
either way will keep the motor running with good power. If you only do a stroker crank it will retard the port timing. If you want to do the stroker plate you need to measure the base gasket thickness. Take that Number then subtract that from 1mm to get the thickness of the plate you need. Since you will use 2 base gaskets.
