I got my first motocross bike when I was 30... which in "motocross years" turns out to equal around 65-70.

Good deal! I can't say I'll be there that early, but I shouldn't be any later than 10am... I'm not worried about seeing the game, so I'm not in as big of a hurry to get there.

I'll be in a black '09 F150 Supercrew, black '09 KX450 with #613, the guy likely slower than you!

I usually try really hard to park as close to the bathrooms as possible... it sucks getting old... gotta take a whizz as soon as I get there, and then another one after I get my gear on... not so much age really, but due more to extra effort to hydrate... yeah, that's it!

I rode fire roads for a couple of years at 12-13 on an old RM80 then didn't touch anything other than a street bike until I was 35, that year I bought my son his first bike and me an old 86 RM125.


I rode that 125 a few times but ended up behind the camera enjoying watching my son race. My camera habit turned into a fledgling business at the track and my old 125 sat untouched for many years. This past spring at the ripe old age of 43 I decided it was time to enjoy the time with my son while he still enjoyed being around me so I scaled back the photo stuff, bought an 09 KX450 and lined up for my first ever race. I also rode more this summer than my entire life to date combined.


I had a great summer other than crashing my brains out at a race the weekend before Millville which eliminated my first planned ride at Amateur day at Spring Creek. Wish I had put the camera down much sooner!

Man, I'm glad there are other guys who picked it up again later in life & are slightly intimidated by the jumps now...I'm not the only one!

I raced a little bit in high school & gave it up to go to University. Mid-life crisis or whatever; but buddies & I all bought bikes again a couple summers ago (20 years later).

I don't know how or why I gave up riding, my first time on a bike in 20 years I had a tear in my eye as I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I will never, ever stop!

that's funny...I'll be the guy either walking out or waiting on you to finish taking a leak.

I drink a ton of water when I get up and on the way to the track. Seems I'm always heading over there when I'm not on the bike.

My riding buddy will be on a #19 white yamaha.

I'm still deliberating on this weekend's ride/s. Oakhill preps for Saturday practices so we were talking about going out there. If that doesn't happen, Sunday at RV will be good. David has a TV in his track apartment so my football nut wife is set at RV, although she wants to ride RV Monday because they will be open and there are no games to interfere with her ride. Decisions, decisions...

I started at 30 myself. the best advise I can give you is buy some Gary Semics DVD's and other "How to" and watch and learn! They help me tremendously. You showld have very little bad habits when you start so its important to learn the right way from the beggining! I have been riding for 3 years(one year in Iraq) and I enter my first race, a local series and won the Vet C class. Not too bad for a late start! Watch others and seat time!

I started when I was sixteen and, for the most part, have been riding ever since. That was early enough to learn how to jump and control the bike in the air, but I don't feel like I ever learned how to judge the big gaps.I tend to shy away from the jumps with negative consequences for coming up short these days. I have done some decent size jumps and it is awesome when you do it for the first time and so easy after you have done it a couple times, but I have also ate poo and been jacked up for months on end. Knowing I will be able to ride next week is a better feeling, to me, than knowing what it would feel like to clear that big jump. I love being in the air but some jumps are just not worth it.

That being said, I wish we had more old school GP style tracks!

2TYam... Oakhill seems to have answered your prayers for the old school GP style track... of course there's always Burleson too... my favorite is the GP track at 3 Palms though..

Yep 3 Palms has good tracks and I have heard they don't let quads and bikes on at the same time anymore, so I'd like to head back there soon too.

The last time I was there was right after Christmas 2007, what a cluster f**k. It was an open free for all on all tracks, everything from utility quads, beginner 50 riders, all the way to pro 450 riders, on the same tracks at the same time. Real smart. The only track that was big bikes only was the supercross track, so that's all I rode that day, supposedly you are only to be on the supercross track if you have a current AMA pro card. Lots of track workers around and nobody questioned meCool .

I rode the SX track last time I was there... not a word from anyone and there was anyone that shouldn't be on a SX track... that'd be ME!! HA!

Shoot, it takes me 30 minutes just to get unloaded and my gear on... then it's usually two laps and then stop for some water...
