Finished (for now) Rm 125 enduro build!

Love this build. Been looking into doing a two stroke build of my own and using it for enduros on the odd occasion so this is a great read for me. Actually followed you around Escot for a lap or so as well and the bike was sounding good! Do you find the two stroke hard to ride for Enduro? I see you also have an 08 rm 125 which is one of the bikes I'm looking at but reading reviews has swayed me away from it due to it's lack of bottom end as opposed to the YZ or KX of similar year. How do you find it? I'm currently on a 250F and wondering how much more difficult it would be? Cheers.

Thanks! I love this bike for enduro! I've been struggling to get it running right but think I've finally tracked the issue down to bad reeds! I have also added a flywheel weight and geared the bike down! My 08 definitely has more bottom end than the earlier 02 bike! Are you going to the endurocks practice at escot next weekend? If you are you can take it for a lap and see how you find it

Over the weekend I got the bike over to the dyno to make sure the jetting was in the right area and after a bit of minor adjustment with the powervalve setting we got a nice power curve and a reading of just over 32 Hp which is a good reading for a stock motor (my 08 MX race bike makes 37 Hp at the wheel) I was happy enough with that. On Sunday I had my first outing with the bike.. A 4hr hare and hounds enduro and the bike performed really well apart from ongoing clutch issues. The bike will not start in gear until the transmission is really warm and I get a lot of drag and a poor feel at the bars. I've decided to install a new basket, hub and pressure plate over the next month and a new clutch pull arm. I experienced similar issues with my 08 bike until I went to a full Hinson setup so hopefully I can get round the issue as its a major advantage to start in gear on a dead engine start. I will also try running atf in the transmission and see if this helps

This is an older post, but can you go into a little more detail about the transmission issue? I've experienced something similar before, I hadn't thought of transmission.

Good to hear you seem to have sorted the running issues. I am hoping to be at Escot next weekend, it was a great loop they had last time there. Thanks for the offer. it's very kind of you but I'm not sure I would be comfortable riding your bike though incase I bin it! Haha. Shame there aren't a few fire roads there linked together for me to test out the power curve but I'm sure I would get used to any two stroke after a while. Cheers.

Your more than welcome to have a go! I've crashed it plenty of times so it now has a few war wounds but that's what it's built for

Since building the bike I've replaced the clutch basket, inner hub, pressure plate and plates and springs and now use atf fluid in the transmission and it now starts in gear! What problems are you experiencing?

Haha I may just have to take you up on that offer then if I go. I'll be on this, popping as I go (250F)
Cheers, James.

So the trusty old Suzuki did me proud this season! I managed to finish 4th in the e1 clubman group of the southwest enduro championship after missing a few rounds. I also completed my first ever Weston super mare beach race, a challenging 3 hour beach race with a lot of challenging sand dunes! The bike never missed a beat! I am now giving the bike an overhaul in the off season. The suspension is being re-done, I'm thinking of having the forks and shock kashima coated and dlc shock shaft and stanchions. I will also go through the motor and see how it's all holding up. No major engine plans as I got it dialed in pretty well but will be experimenting with a different carb slide to try and clean up the bottom end a little! I will post updates as I go

ive ridden and raced 04 rm125 04 kx125 and 05 yz125.

coming from a 250f non of them have bottom end power. but the rm is the weaker of the three. but there is a saving grace. a little bit of engine work and any one of them can be tuned for more bottom power.

125s are harder to ride fast and require more work just on a track. but they are much lighter and lighter feeling.

if i had to pick one for woods riding i would probably take the kx. compared to the others it feels like it sits a little lower and feels very nimble plus its got strong midrange. the rm turns very well but the sit taller. the yz is like warm porrige, its motor is the most spread out and the chassis is ok, not bad not great but ok

So I picked up a 2002 rm 125 tonight with the plan to strip it and rebuild it from the ground up to race enduros! I thought I'd start a thread here to show the build as it progresses and bounce a few ideas around. I bought the bike with a blown bottom end so I started stripping it down as soon as I got the bike home and have it stripped to a bare frame and have the engine split already! The things a mess inside the motor so I'm currently putting a parts order together! As well as a new crank it looks like she will need a few new gears due to the usual rounded dogs! The clutch basket looks to be in real good condition surprisingly but I plan to change it for a Hinson basket as I run one in my 08 rm 125 and have been really impressed!

Hi i was woundering what sprocket set are you running because i have 06 rm 125 that i ride mainly hard enduro with 12 front and 51 rear, teeth and i cant find anywhert info about what gear ratio should i run on my bike.
