I'd appreciate some insight from any women or men with wives or kids around my size!
Rider size: 5'5 and 105 lbs
Intended use: Trails around CO and UT
Rider experience: Beginner (had a crf100 15+ years ago, plenty of street experience on an xvs650 and cl200)
Been looking at getting a crf150 or klx140 full size. Found a good deal on a crf230. I like the idea of feeling solid over obstacles and having something to grow with, but will the 230 be too heavy at my weight and experience level?
I'm a lady, 5'6" 130lb, so a little heavier than you. I started on a TT-R230 (the Yamaha equivalent of the CRF230), and it was the PERFECT starter bike. My only mistake was moving up from it too quickly. I could've spent more time on that bike and developed my skills faster. With your street experience, I think you'll be just fine on the 230 and will appreciate the longer wheelbase, larger wheels, and extra torque. It's a bike you can grow into. The bikes are heavy on paper, but they're surprisingly nimble and easy to balance. The only time you might notice the weight is when you're picking it up after a tip-over. I'd say go for it!
