Hello Fellas, My name is Tom. Confession up front: I never raced at Indian Dunes. I was born in '72 and lived in San Diego. However, I've been trying to figure the area out as it was back in its glory days. When I lived in LA a few years ago, I got my helicopter license training over the area (although it is no longer recognizable). I've read as much as I can about the layout, but I have to admit, it's still a little confusing! I've attached a satellite photo of Indian Dunes taken in 1977. I know some tracks might not have been built yet, but I've laid down some numbers on the photo if it will help anybody identify the individual tracks, as you remember racing on them. I appreciate any help and thanks alot for your time. You were lucky bastards to be old enough to enjoy Indian Dunes! Tom

2. Mini Track? Not sure about that. Never raced minis.
3. Speedway Track.
4. No clue. Never saw that one.
5. ½ Mile (I think) Oval. Tested a Midget there once.
6. Don’t know.
7. Shadow Glen Track. My personal favorite.
8. Play area. GP’s would cross the river, but I don’t remember any tracks on the south side of the river.
3. The mini track is underneath and too the left of #3. The Oval below #3 was something like a 1/5 or 1/4 mile?. One corner was banked, one was flat.
4. Small oval practice track. Speedway bikes, 3/4 midgets, etc.
6. Dont recall that.
7. Shadow Glenn. Im surprised how difficult is to make out the track.
I just found some pictures at my parents house of me riding my SL70 and My 74' xr75 on the mini track (72' thru 74')
There was another mini track the NMA raced on around 1974. Every 2nd and 4th sunday if I remember right. It was located in between the Oval (#3) and the shadow gleen track.
Good Times!

I'm a huge Winners Take All fan. Since I was 8 years old I've been trying to find out where all the play riding/practicing footage was shot. The area where they are riding in the final race just looked incredible. I believe it may have been the Shadow Glenn area of Indian Dunes...can anyone confirm. It would make sense since I'm aware that Indian Dunes was used as a movie set after the riding stopped.
???????
If any of the information or your memory changes . . . please post. I really appreciate your time.
I got some good overview shots of the area last year (see link and below) as it looks now. It was just after a major burn in the area, unfortunately. You can use your browser to zoom in or out of the pic if you click on the hyperlink instead of the below photo.
