2008 Yz250 marketplace find 🫠

Well after watching washougal this morning I got the itch for a 2 stroke again so I went deep diving on good old facebook marketplace and found myself a great deal. In Australia during Covid 2 strokes among nearly every other bike went through the roof so finding a decent buy is hard. Long story short I found an 08 yz250 but downside was it was 2 hours away but I headed down and picked it up for $2800 (Aussie dollars). The bike has 60 hours on it since full rebuild and have receipts so prob due for top end. Bike has a few things I need to replace such as expansion chamber which is a pro circuit platinum but may attempt a repair as I mean I’ve never tried and it’s stuffed anyway so what harm can I do haha. Anyways if there are any vital heads in Australia that have some ideas of what I should do and if anyone has parts for sale would be stoked to hear from you. Also anyone with any hacks to get this beast back to its former glory would be good to hear these too anyways looking forward to hearing from everyone! I’ll post updates on here on the build 71179816603 F30383D1-44DD-441C-B058-E0B955A9D88F

Stripped down all the shitty old plastics checked subframe for cracks bends, frame check was good all straight. Only pain was getting front wheel off due to bearing seizing to axel but sorted that with a little bit of heat. Now am doing some online shopping for parts. Looking to do a polisport restyle kit on it as well should come up nice will keep posting progress for anyone who cares 😂

I can’t wait to find me a basket case YZ250 to go through and build. The #1 do it all bike IMO.

They are ringmaster images a company here in Australia im pretty sure. They haven’t been around for a while now. I’ve got the polisport restyle kit ready to go for it!

So finished getting the subframe back to looking fresh and added the updated air box from the restyle kit. Have fixed up some of the usable bolts. Have hit the roadblock that every bike restorer dreads the good ol swingarm pivot bolt 😩. It’s fairly well seized after the previous owner clearly rode a lot of woods stuff through water etc and didn’t maintain the bike like he should have. Same thing on front wheel but I sorted that one. Have tried all the tricks of removing rear suspension and motor mounts to get the bolt to move but of course having no luck. So will attempt some more things until I go to the extreme of cutting the bolt. In the mean time my new pro circuit platinum pipe arrived along with a large box of parts so here is hoping I can get that bolt out soon. In the meantime I have stripped the radiator/hoses and will probably move onto front suspension soon and get it sorted out the oil prob has never been changed knowing this ex owner 😂

That seems like a nice price even if it were US dollars!  Have you tried spraying so gnarly penetrating oil in there and letting it sit all night?

Hey mate! Yeah was a steal at that price for a runner with the work done and little extras like v force 3 reeds and only 60 hours on bottom end. But same as in the states everyone went silly during Covid and were charging 6k for absolute piles here. I was lucky enough this guy lived so far away nobody wanted to drive 2 hours to look at it. The price started at 5k but I just broke down how much everything would cost to fix and may have embellished a little 😂 and I think he just wanted it off his hands so once the cash was shown it was all done and dusted. Yeah I have put some wd40 in there but think I need something a bit more powerful so will pick something up sometime this week to give that a go as I’m trying my best to save money for the main things like engine work and if I can save the pivot bolt I’d like too as they are a good $100 or more here. Will definitely see what the bath of penetrating oil does though!

I’ve had a couple scenarios where nothing would help but this did.  Stuff is strong!

so ended up having to cut the pivot bolt😩 I tried everything I possibly could do but got everything done nice so now can move onto cleaning up the swingarm and frame. Probably going to get the motor completely rebuilt and maybe some porting done. Looking at a new ignition as well as old one just looks like shit. Anyways here are some pictures 👍IMG 2397.jpeg?VersionId=dxn8L8QTu0tJeh6HIMG 2398IMG 2396 0.jpeg?VersionId=9FRQdg3Cafp2T8E9g7cgLbrLdP

Ok so got the bearings out of the swingarm and gave it a good going over probably going to give it some more love but it is night and day better than where it was prior which is in the pic prior. Anyways here’s some more pictures of the processIMG 2417 0.jpeg?VersionId=jPTeo1TL9twL0i4Omg8DgDwtEUMkE
