CAD of the frame they are currently building for me. It’s all measured out to fit me perfectly (hopefully) I’ve never been in a chair that actually fit me right because wheelchair dealers I’ve dealt with in the past, sucked! This time I’m working directly with the wheelchair builders. But I’m literally stuck on what color I should choose for the frame and what color for my wheels…but just wanted to give an update. $1,160 left to go til it’s fully paid off, so please buy jerseys! Make offers, I don’t have set prices because they’re priceless to me but need to pay for this chair before they ship it out when it’s done so I’m willing to part with them. Thanks again to everyone who’s supported so far! Super grateful!!
Thank you Mike E.! for your donation
Sorry been busy with a lot of my school work and haven’t been on here in some days.
$1,020 left for me to raise over the next few weeks. I also have some signed goggles from JS7, Jeremy McGrath and Cole Seely if that interests anyone? Other than that just the jerseys posted earlier in this post. Lmk if you’re wanting any of them. Thanks again everyone for the support!
Just sent a little, should be from Carl Madsen.
I'm actually looking for a new chair myself as my current one is over 10 years old. As a fellow Paraplegic (been in this chair since February 25th, 2001) I can vouch for the chair issues. I have the best health insurance you can get and I pay out the ass for it since I am in a chair and frequent the doctors, but they don't pay jack shit when it comes to wheelchairs.
Most people don't see the "behind the scenes" of people in chairs. They don't see us struggle to get in/out of bed, the toilet, the shower, dealing with sores, bladder infections, bladder & bowel incontinence, spasms, and the physical toll it takes on our bodies to push a chair around all day plus lifting our bodies all the time.
A wheelchair is nothing like buying a car or dirtbike. You can't just pick one off the showroom floor, make a few adjustments and go pound out laps or in our case live a normal life. It literally has to be built to your exact physical specifications. Height, weight, activity level, specific injury status, etc. My "best insurance ever" will only pay for a new chair every 5 years. Not just any chair...the absolute bare minimum. For example...
1) I need a special seat to prevent me from getting pressure sores since I'm in this chair 16-18 hrs a day. Insurance won't cover it...I have to pay out of pocket for this seat. The one they will pay for will put me in the hospital within 3 months.
2) I need a lightweight frame since my shoulders are torn up from old MX injuries and pushing this current chair for so many years. My insurance says "fuck you". They will only pay for the heaviest chair because it's the cheapest and anything more is a "privilege" even with a doctors note. More money out of my pocket.
3) I need a special back support...you know since I literally crushed my T4 - T9 vertebra and have severe pain. "Ohhh sorry...that's a special part we don't cover, you'll have to pay for that out of pocket". Again...even with a doctors note.
I'm actually surprised that you're only spending 5k on a new chair, that's a fairly cheap price. A "performance light weight" chair can easily go for 10k. Not to mention people who need electric wheelchairs, those cost as much as a small car.
I try to be as level headed as I can on this board but I have to say, if anyone is willing to donate $20 to Bobby Piazza for revving his fucking bike and throwing a tantrum when he was asked to stop....please send that money to someone who's life will actually benefit and needs a break like Brit. You have no idea how important and how much of a big deal it is for someone paralyzed to have a decent wheelchair just to live a simple normal life.
Brit - If you don't mind, send me an email with the details of your new chair. I need to replace mine and before making such a big decision I wanna do all my research. I've been looking a lot at the "Motion Composites Apex C". The chair I've been using for the last 10+ years is a Quickie Q7 which I love but it's been discontinued. My email is Carl24Lindsey3@gmail.com.
I’ll email you right after this. But thank you so much for your donation and for the amazing explanation on some of the things we deal with when it comes to being wheelchair users, especially Spinal Cord Injuries! I’m a C6/C7 quadriplegic but can push a chair for the most part but hills is where I struggle. I originally was going to go with a Mike Box chair once my insurance denied the chair/things I need but found this other company, Reckless Wheelchairs. The people who work for them are mostly all in chairs themselves and they were very thorough explaining everything to me so I decided to go with them. Their pricing was decent as well. I didn’t even think I’d get close to raising 5.5k so didn’t even think of going for the more expensive ones. I also drive from my chair so it needs to be set up for that too. I’ve been in my current chair since 2013 that I paid for out of pocket but was like $2,500 back then but definitely isn’t set up correctly for me. I have Medicaid & Medicare so the 2 crappiest insurance available too so even worse when it comes to getting things lol…no one truly knows our everyday struggles, it’s definitely a rough life and I’m grateful for motocross because I was built tough from it

Well said, Carl - a little much needed perspective.
Update!! Wheelchair is being welded together!!
sorry haven’t been on here much as there hasn’t been much to update about and I was busy with my last few weeks of my 2nd semester for my 2nd college degree (Business). Passed with 2 A’s and 2 B’s.
I ended up picking “Alien Silver” as my wheelchair color with green spokes for the wheels. Can’t wait to post pics of it when I finally receive it to show you guys what you all helped with!
if anyone wants to buy any of the jerseys please let me know. I still have to pay off the last of the money for the wheelchair ($900+). I also make die-cut vinyl stickers if anyone would like to buy some, I’m willing to work for the money! (The stickers are the ones that go on like car windows and stuff you stick ig on with the transfer sheet then peel the clear sheet away and it leaves the sticker there. I can make any design pretty much.)
How much more do you need Brit?
$970 total left so hoping to sell some jerseys and stickers to get it covered 🙂
Don’t worry about it Brit - best wishes!
Omg thank you soooo much Zach!!! I just finished going to doctors appointments and stuff and logged on to see you donated 😱 that means so much right now!! Seriously, thank you! Guys my wheelchair is now fully paid for!! 💯🤙🏽❤️ I’ll use this thread to update you guys on the chair and especially when it gets delivered, I’ll be blasting it on here 😁 Thank you everyone!!!

Seriously thaaaaaaank you to everyone who helped make this happen!!! Need to get used to it and remember I don’t have wheelie bars anymore tho lol hopefully I don’t fall backwards ever haha but it’s already so much better than my 10 year old chair I been using which was falling apart slowly. Again, thank you everyone!!! I’m forever grateful for you guys!
That’s awesome! Stoked for you 👍. I’m happy to have had a small part in it. Good job on the color options too 👌👌
