Im getting my 1979 Maico 440 ready to do a few vintage races next year. Im rebuilding the simons forks and fox air shocks, has anyone else been running these? and how well do they work on todays tracks? and if anyone has a line on a wheelsmith pipe and silencer Im looking.

The Simons forks were great in their day but I doubt they are better than the stock forks with Race Tech Emulators. Also, it seems like everyone favors Ohlins shocks to the fox airs nowadays.

Pro-Form seems to be the pipe of choice for most of the Maico guys.

I can't speak for the stock Maico forks, but Race Tech emulators in 43mm Showas are just fine and I would argue much more cost-effective than Simons of Fox Forx. Fox Shox work OK and are very easy to setup, but they're not as good as Ohlins (then or now) hence the significant difference in price.

The coolness factor alone with that setup will carve seconds off your laptimes for sure...granted a Race Tech'd set of Maico forks and a modern set of shocks from Ohlins, Works Performance , Race Tech or any other more recent manufacturer would probably work better . those Simons fetch ludicrous bucks when you can find em for sale and the Fox's are much in demand as well despite being old school tech..which probably is the appeal to those who want it "just like it was back in the day"... rebuild and try em and see how they work for you , if you dont like em you can always take em off and sell em fairly easily I would think.
