The decision was based on input from all six motorcycle manufacturers -- Cobra, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Yamaha and Suzuki -- as well as the AMA at last year's Loretta Lynn's race, where we always host a meeting to discuss the event, the qualifying program and the industry (I think you've been in those meetings before when you were with Cobra). Needless to say, last year's meeting was not pleasant for anyone, as it was obvious that the industry is still hurting, the lead law has not gone away (and those same 85cc could be pulled from the showroom floors again, like they were last spring) and everyone realizes that minicycle sales numbers are falling...
Funny thing: We've gotten some downright nasty, never-coming-back letters based on simply expanding the duration of the class by one year to what it was for a long time: 12-to-14 years for 85cc riders. All I can say is sorry, we feel that this is the right thing for the program.
Hope that clears it up, please feel free to ask me anything else about the class structure and I will try to help.

Let them cut off they're nose to spite they're face. There's way too many classes anyway.
90+ % of the parents and riders need to come to they're sense's and realize that they're never going to realize a real paycheck from the sport. Back it down a notch and enjoy the sport for what most of us did, to be motorscooter racers and riders.
