This is for the people who think their local government is looking out for their best interest instead of being the thieving fucking bastards that they are. This county sold an old lady's home at auction for 15 grand in property tax arrears for 40 grand and kept the rest. Which is legal in that state. Well the scotus basically said fuck you 9 to zip. This shit was legal in about 15 or 20 states. WTF? I understand selling the property to recoup back taxes but the rest does not belong to you. Fucking thieves.
Don't even get me started on the property seizure by law enforcement scam. These government people are gangsters. Even worse because they do it under the color of law.
Taxes are a recurring lien on any real property. And if not paid, the county/city can foreclose and resell the property. It sucks…I think property taxes are a scam…pay taxes when a property is purchased…not every year….but it is the reality….and this is lady faced the consequence of not paying the property taxes.
Did you know individuals can pay (well this ruling might change this) the past due property taxes and take over the property in many states? A $300k home has $25k in back taxes…you pay the back taxes, and you just bought a $300k home for $25k. (Granted, they will not be buying it with a clear title…and any existing mortgages etc would still be liens…but still).
property taxes suck…

Our Rights are SECONDARY to their Political Narrative.
Seems like good new to me. Thanks for posting it up!
It's not just the government that did that. Back in 2010 when people were getting foreclosed on left and right. The banks would take over the property and sell it at auction. They were/are supposed to refund any money that it sold for over the amount owed the bank. But what the banks would do was change the auction dates and not advertise the new dates then sell in a "secret auction" to a sister company at a very cheap price. They could write off the loss, never have to refund any money, and then the sister company would claim a hefty profit. The little guy always gets screwed, and not by the hottie in the bar that everyone wants to screw.
Now for the SCOTUS to tackle the problem of civil asset forfeiture - literally highway robbery.
I think Rand Paul is one of the only true constitutional patriots left in American government; he constantly rails against this highway robbery. There are hundreds of examples of good, law-abiding citizens literally being robbed at gunpoint by law enforcement because they get pulled over and happen to have cash on hand. A guy driving through Las Vegas a while back had down payment money for a new home, didn't trust banks, and lost his entire down payment to these scumbag cops and ATF agents. Another guy owned a small convenience store and was making cash deposits; the IRS accused him of money laundering because of daily cash deposits (and zero proof that he was actually doing anything wrong), seized almost $100k, and after massive legal challenges only gave back like $30k.
What people don't realize is that there are huge financial incentives for law enforcement to seize assets (i.e. they get to keep a large portion of them and fund their MRAPs or whatever to militarize their podunk local police force), and citizens have almost no recourse.
And for folks who just shrug their shoulders and say "they shouldn't be carrying cash", well fuck you very much, and I hope for your sake some other totally legal activity that these vultures exploit doesn't destroy your life or that of someone you love.
FRT and ATF
That’s pretty optimistic to think personal rights are that high on most politicians’ list.
Thanks sword, I get in a hurry at times and don't proofread
They’d charge us with RICO, if we behaved the way they do.
