Im about to move with my wife to the US for this very purpose. Was wondering if there are any other homesteaders here? What do you raise?
We've decided on Southwest Missouri since the land is quite affordable and it's not too far from her parents in Nebraska (but not too close either 
), the laws are to our liking, and it has forests and lakes and hills (I can't live anywhere flat since I come from the Alps).
We have many motivations, but I can't lie, having my own personal turn track to ride on before going to work is a life long dream...and access to great trail riding (all impossible here in Switzerland).
We live in California, but California is the least free state in the country, insane regulations, taxes, fees, etc. 4 or 5 years ago we actually looked at property in Southwest Missouri (Mountain Grove area). No "mountains", but lots of hills and trees, some beautiful lakes as well. Yes, a lot more freedom in Missouri than in many states (like California). Turn tracks should not be a problem, even a legit full size track for personal use is probably doable if you have the space. Colorado is a days drive if you miss the mountains too much and Colorado looks just like Switzerland (IMO) in terms of the landscape. I have traveled all over the world and I think Americans are probably the most friendly, outgoing and helpful people on the planet from my experience. Welcome!
By homesteading you mean buying land and building a house?
Make sure water is available and good. If you are drilling a well you might be able to find out if there are common problems with wells in the area through the county health department (iron, sulfer, etc.)
I think he means using your land to provide as much of your own food as possible.
We have an acre so not really a "homestead" but we have a pile of chickens, 3 good sized garden areas and just fenced in a spot to get goats. I also hunt religiously and 100% of our red meat comes from that every year.
I think we are confused by your term of homesteading. Homesteading here is actually a legal term that provide you protections against the property being taken. Then also a common term of living on some land and using that land to provide for you also. I think you're asking about the latter. We have some folks here that fit that definition.

Ive thought about it but no clue. I use Brave browser on both laptop and phone...but my guess is that it was the pop-up blocker that comes with Brave misbehaving.
I did several tests again with my phone and it did it again. Either that or ive been hacked...but this is coming from a very very non IT guy.
Other than that...im on telegram a lot following the war...some channels are ukranian..some russian but thats about it.
Any ideas?

Thanks for that! Everything ive read and researched points exactly to what you have said...particularly Missouri. A bit distant at first, but super welcoming once you've earned their trust.
Yeah the idea is to have at least 40 acres and be max 1 hour from Springfield, so I have access to the job market. I'de ideally like some flat pasture, some elevation, and about a 50/50 split between forest and pasture, a year round stream and ponds too. Pre-existing infrastructure would be nice (but a massive temptation to bring on too much livestock too quickly). We want to take it slow and basically over a 10 year period transition from me working day job, to generating income off the homestead via local farmers markets etc.
