For some weird reason the 3rd time 2 different motors I've had the ball bearings in the governor fly out. They pass over to the left side of the motor and end up in the transmission. Luckily all that's ever happened is the bike either hanging in gear or won't shift up. The bearing finds it's way into the shift drum slot.

I've ordered a new spring thinking the old one is getting soft and allowing this to happen. Anybody else have to deal with this. Here's a pic of the part that the ball bearings are coming out of.

Check to make sure the snap ring is still in place. The snap ring should keep the assembly from expanding too far and preventing the bearings from coming out.

Will do, have now split the cases and recovered the missing ball bearings. Thank goodness no internal damage, so cases are back together. Does anybody know if Pro Circuit has an upgrade on this governor, I know the powervalve blade and parts are upgraded by them?

Has the governor had any modification? The bearings normally fly out of the governor for 2 reasons. The free length of the governor is out of spec, or The ramps have been modified and clearance is excessive. Pro Circuit use to build mod governors for their engines. I believe they just stiffer springs.

It was a problem on the older KX85's.

The updated parts from Kawasaki are good.

Other issue is if powervalve itself is hanging up. Has to be spotless and free moving. If it doesn't move freely, or arm is worn the balls will fall out.

I just thought of something... fast RPM variations are what can cause this also. If junior is wide open locks up the back brake stalls motor this can happen also.

Ahh yeah junior is wide open with Dad throwing dirt clods to get his attention to shift!! No just kidding but this sand riding does work the motor pretty hard. And yes most of my stuff is pre 07' Actually the 07' race bike hasn't had the problem yet, just his older stuff. Everytime a motor comes out it only takes 30 minutes to disassemble and clean the powervalve. Also I use Maxima K2 and have from day one at 30 to 1.

Williams is there a mod you can do to the governor I'll mail one up to you?

You hit it almost right on, but it was with his panic revving while hitting bigger jumps, then sudden rpm drop with the tire hitting ground. Was told need to close up overall distance 1mm and get the kid to stop!
