I like listening to the announcing on the events. The rider interviews are done well. Last week it was with RJ.
Peters is pretty dominant and last week they drove home the point that he’s the only fully supported rider in the series, that the other riders are all working jobs through the week. I wonder if that’s completely true?
Doesn't Alessi race that series? Or is it the other one? You know Mike doesn't have a 9-5 job. I would've thought Stankdog wouldn't have to either, but now that the price of w**d is lower than eggs he might have to go put in some hours at the local Amazon hub.
That's the other series.
I like watching AX on Friday nights. Only complaint is you can't hear the bikes/engines. Want to know what it's like to watch E-bikes race, watch AX. Love the commentary and totally dig the bar banging of AX. Just miss the engine growl.
I refuse to watch when the no clutch or shifting Ebikes take over. Just forks bottoming and an annoying whining sound? For 3 hours? No thanks. But I'm not trying to derail this thread. I've watched a few Arenacrosses and went to one last year in Loveland, CO when I went to visit my buddy. Kinda sad, I've been to local races in Norcal that had bigger crowds and starting gates so full they had people on a second row. Back in the early 2000s The Bounty Hunter series in the Los Banos fairgrounds had almost twice the crowds then the AX races these days. But that was before the manufacturers priced a big chunk of racers out of the sport with fourstrokes. The 2 AX series can not be making any profit. Who ran it in the hay day with Budman, Denny, Cliff Palmer, Mad Mike Jones etc. Mike Kidd? Whoever it was we need him or some one like him back. And bigger racetracks. The start, whoops, rhythm, finish line track gets monotonous and to small for the bikes. Maybe make AX be like the 125 Emx class in Europe for the rookies wanting to race Supercross to get there feet wet first? 🤔

Comparing the series a year ago to this year's is not a comparison. New ownership with a former AX pro (during the Budman/Dbo days) Robby McQuarry driving the ship with some partners has really changed the direction of the series. The tracks are now technical and "pro tracks" with a real pro show. Nice format and enough money for guys to make money. They've sold some places out and rider numbers are decent. Though the depth still could be better. Guys are catching on that there is money to be made and you'll start to see riders and teams focus towards that. Plus, live coverage every Friday night is sweet.
I bet next year will be twice the depth and the following year it'll be very, very strong if they keep on this path.
The coverage is good (though tonight was the first hiccup I've had with the Ryde app after watching over 40 events on it) and I enjoy the commentary. I hope they can fix the delay from the arena with the bikes to the commentary that isn't on site in the future though.
Good to hear. The track in Loveland was far from technical and a fast kid on a 65 could do every obstacle. Granted I know they were made with amatuer day in mind, but their was not a single obstacle that made you go "wow." I'm glad one of the old guard is involved in running it. I'd still like to see it all under one umbrella, but I'm willingly to watch. Is it only on an app or can I find it on a cable channel?
Depends if you can get MavTV or aren't jaded by last summer.
If it helps sell you on the app, it also has all the Canadian Triple Crown races, the UK Arenacross (SX) series that is always full on chaos, Endurocross, and the AMA Arenacross series and as I said I've watched 30+ events on it and only had issues once. I should clarify, I'm only selling people on it because I love AX, racing, and have had a good experience. On the business side we supported the other AX series the last couple years. It's completely different with very amateur friendly tracks still. But if you're looking to watch pro racing, the new AMA AX series is doing it well.
Curious why more guys are not riding this series? Is the payout just not very good ? Staink Dog comes to mind as he would most likely be top 3 in this series.
The purse and details were a late announcement. Tough to sell whispers and rumors to sponsors and riders who rely on it for a living. That's why I see it growing a ton in the next couple of years.
I get Mavtv and it was kind of annoying last summer, but I usually was out doing other things and just watched it the next day or two. If it was Supercross I would've been pissed. My question is why is Langston commentating? He's never raced AX and I think we have all suffered through, and heard most of his nasally "as a little boy growing up in South Africa" stories during the Nationals the past 10 years or so. Why not bring in an AX legend every week to co-host with Hanny? Budman, Denny, Mad Mike, Demuth, Darcy Lange, Jeff Willoh, Bowers, Cliff Palmer, Clifford "The Flyin Hawaiian" Adoptante, Jeff Gibson etc. ya know guys that have actually raced it? Either way I'll watch and support any kind of racing.
Budman is the usual announcer with Ping and they've had RJ on a few times IIRC.
This should help confirm it’s on a new level compared to last year now with the new ownership and changes:
The social content and quality media coming from the event is pretty sweet. I work a group of very talented people on some side projects and I've shown off some of the AMA AX stuff to them as examples quite often.
I grew up in AX. I watched the golden era of Gaddis, Budman, Dbo, Demuth, Lange all the way through the Regal, Blose, Faith, Hayes days. I'm excited because those guys were my heroes and friends and it's finally gaining its own identity again. What better way for a guy like Izaih Clark or even Michael Hicks in his visits to make a name for himself than dicing with Kyle Peters? It worked pretty well for some unknown kid from Iowa on a #114 Honda who just was the first grand marshal at Daytona SX. Without AX, he never would've been discovered or given a chance.
The announcing team has been rotating between guys like Budman, GL, Ping, now Hanny and isn't perfect but it's also moto guys that understand racing and are fans of racing. You can't beat Budman's analysis or Ping's quick wit for something like that. I feel like AX started declining when FELD (or company under another name) started trying to make it mini SX instead of letting it have it's own identity and started taking it too seriously. AX is a niche. If SX is MMA, AX is WWE (thought it's still real racing). It's entertainment, it's fun, it's exciting, and it's action packed.
I came across a video on Facebook which was #412 Jared Lesher on a 2 stroke bringing it to #2 Bitterman in a 1 on 1 race. He the won on a bigger than normal AX track which was pretty damn cool and the crowd loved it. But I then tried to find the same video to share here for 20 plus minutes using multiple search engines and different key words with no luck? But I bet I could find some poor soul baking Feld and Jett's donuts to gouge the fanbase of even more cash. But no AX clips? I'm a big fan of the bigger tracks and bigger obstacles. But if you search Arenacross, both series get lumped together and you can't even find a rider list for either of them? But as a long time MX fan, the fact that I Google Arenacross rosters, Ama or Kicker, you get nothing just dates of the next town? Who runs these sites? It's 2023 and a 12 year old could produce a better website with more information. It could be great. But if you have no way to tell what is what as a longtime fan, imagine a casual fan? No way either series is making money, but whoever has the bigger tracks needs to buy the other series out or work out a partnership. Unfortunately there is not enough money to be spread around for 2 series. Promoters are just costing themselves money at this point. But they're most likely rich and using it as a write off. Imagine these bigger tracks and only one series with the best riders? There would be good money to be made. A handfull of amatuers paying $50 to race Sunday and empty crowds on Friday and Saturday barely cover the dirt and equipment costs to build a track. And that's being generous. Not meaning to be a dick, but it is true that there is not enough meat on the bone to feed 2 AX series.
Again not meaning to be a dick and I remember watching you racing in Oakland when I was younger. I think I remember you doing the Jump Contest against Jones, Adoptante, and local guy Harold Hageman. I may be nitpicking here, but there is no way the UFC is bigger than the WWE. Not even close. Just saying.
You’re thinking of my brother in Oakland. I never raced there, but he left there with his jaw wired shut. Oops!
the MMA to WWE comparison was only about both being two guys fighting in a ring, but both are completely different and are entertaining for completely different reasons. AX going down it’s own path is where it has been the most successful.
Oh shit. My bad. Broken jaw? Brutal
