Value of 07 kx250

Edited Date/Time 1/14/2012 9:23pm
Someone near to me is selling a 2007 kx250 (two stroke) -- it has about 50 hours, revalved suspension, fmf, delta force reed cage, and has been jetted perfectly all according to the owner.

What is a realistic price to pay for the bike?

Around here, the KBB retail value is said to be $3,520.

Trade-in value (what youd get if trading in to a dealer and the bike is in good condition) is listed at $2,400.

From what Ive heard about buying used...as long as the bike is in good condition and runs well, a realistic price would be about the average of those two figures.

3250 + 2400 = 5920

5920 / 2 = $2,960

One thing to observe before buying this bike is the owners weight, and ask him about his riding style. This revalve that's been done could be all wrong for you, costing you even more money.

Good point.

So this 07 has about 60 hours on it. Owner is asking right at 3k, non-negotiable.

I found a 2004 KX250 with only 10 hours - no mods, other than renthal sprockets and handlebars. This one is selling for 2500 and the owner is not willing to negotiate.

Another seller has a 07 for 2500, but their bike was used by an A class rider for an entire season and it shows (paint rubbed off cases, frame, shock spring). This one looks tired and I'm not too interested in buying it.

So which is the better deal of these Kawaskis? I'm just afraid the 04 will lose value a lot faster than the 07. Both bikes look the same cosmetically.

I guess if I found a newer CR250 with low hours I'd consider riding red too. There just isn't much on the market right now. I'd also buy a KTM 144/150 if I found a nice used one.

The '07 is different than the '04. I think Kawi made big improvements in '05. If you buy a CR, buy '05 to '07 and if you buy a YZ, buy '06 to '10.

The best motor for the CR was in 01, but the best handling and what not was from 05-07.

Playing mostly.

I take lessons occasionally but race less frequently (womens & the mens D class). I'm mostly interested in reliability, good handling & suspension.

There were minor engine and valving improvements each year with the CR's from 02 through 04. 2005+ had some engine changes, but they didn't amount to much on the track.

The frame remained the same from 02+.

Just asking, because I don't keep track of hours:
Is that all my sprockets last, say with a non-oring chain...10 hours?

Or, should one question the claim of 10 hours?
