Scrubbing bigger jumps definitely reduces lap times. As much as, if not more than some of the engine tuning that goes on.

What does it matter if they look cool or not anyway? In the 90's this helmet was cool...

ya but ktm has pulled like motors and bikes and stuff from mdk right now (mdk never built the race motors ktm sent all the parts over and had motor builders assemble here)
