Looks like Kevin has it, bugger for Toby but the closest Dakar in history. Great achievement for all competitors, amazing from the top 10. 👑🍻
Gutted, Toby went to slow early on. Arm chair racer I am for sure but fuck. There is a happy medium between going mad and crashing and this
What a beast Kevin benavides is! Quietly going about his work throughout the whole dakar and I'm sure he didn't fall out of the top 6 In any stages

What an epic Dakar. The closest finish in the race’s history; after all those miles, 43secs!
Congrats to Benavides and Howes in 3rd.
But there’s no denying Price just cemented himself as a legend.
His Dakar record speaks for itself: 2015-3rd, 2016-1st.,2017, broken femur while leading, 2018-3rd 2019-1st, 2020-3rd, 2023-2nd.
There’s no comparison.
what an epic race, 2023 will be 1 of the best edition. Amazing to see 2 guys finish within 43 seconds, K-Benavides is a beast, what a racer. Kyle Howes was outstanding, superb race too and deserved his podium finish. Best off-road race.
He had to turn around for a couple waypoints.
Toby’s quote at the finish line.
"The first point is disappointment. We've come so far, but look, Kevin's done a great job. Just a little frustrated that, on the last day, they played with these 20-metre rules for the waypoints, and I had to turn back and get three of them. Yeah, hard to take at the moment, but at the end of the day I'm going home in one piece and we got a Dakar trophy. It hurts a little bit. Kevin said he only had to turn back for one waypoint, I think the two waypoints I missed kinda cost us the race. 2023 has definitely kicked off a lot better than 2022."
Stefan Peterhansel might disagree
6 bike wins
8 car wins
Competing in 34 years
was hoping Toby would bring it home as this may be his last year on a bike
Congrats to James Hillier (road racer TT winner) Rookie & Malle moto discolated collarbone
but persevered & finished 76th
Peterhansel is a Dakar legend for sure, but his first two finishes were 18th and 4th, while Price ran with the top guys straight away.
That’s all I’m saying, that Toby was a front runner each and every year from the word go. But true he can’t match Stefan’s title record.
Average finish for their first 7 years- SP 4.33. TP 2.17.
Yeah, well....I could sit here and argue that the original Paris to Dakar was also waaaaay gnarlier than the Dakar Rally is now. I'm a huge Toby Price fan, but he's not on the level of Stefan Peterhansel...not sure anyone is.....
At the end of the day it's kind of like comparing Tomac to Hannah...different eras, different challenges. Toby is probably the gnarliest guy of this current generation though. Starting the 2019 Dakar with a broken scaphoid (with a screw in it), enduring the entire rally as the screw was backing out, and fricken' winning the rally is definitely legendary....
Yes there is no right answer, but it’s a great subject to argue over a beer somewhere.
Yes! So true...I'm so stoked that the sport of rally is gaining popularity. All of those guys are amazing...
