Exactly what my son and I do. We literally watched every qualifier or race from a different part of the stadium. My buddy did get his nice lifted Chevy stolen out of the parking lot 2 years ago though.

2017 I sat at what I think are the best seats if it doesn’t rain. Up one level looking down on the track. Section 137, seats 27 1-4, 4 is sideways and unusable So want 1-3

In case of rain, consider higher rows underneath overhang, row 30 is edge of overhang, higher number more shelter

Here is what we do and my boys and I have been to Oakland many times. Park at a Bart station and ride the train to the stadium. Much cheaper and don't have to deal with the traffic. We usually park at Ashby in Berkeley. The East Bay is not the safest for sure, but you should be fine in and around the stadium.

Race won't be sold out (it never is), so you can save a few bucks by buying seats at the stadium (avoid the Ticketmaster fees). If you are nervous though about availability go on the Ticketmaster site a few weeks in advance and see how many empty seats are still available.

If you plan to sit in the seat you paid for (as opposed to moving around to empty seats), look at the track map online and I recommend sitting in a spot (we like the upper deck) that gives you a 90 degree view of the longest lanes. I think that makes for the best viewing IMO.

Don't sit too low. Waste of money and you can't see all of the action.

They usually do the Monster can deal (they did last the last few years), bring in 1 can per person for free access to the pits, autographs, vendors, etc.

Bring a sweatshirt, even if it is a relatively warm day it is cool in the evenings, especially when its breezy.

We always get their early and watch all of the practice.

Damn! Last time I took the family was probably 2015. I was thinking of taking the Bart from Fremont, not so sure after hearing this. Probably end up at home with friends.

We stayed down town a bit suspect but but only there for 2 nights.
Enjoy yourself. ( after reading the comments about the venue before we went my son was disappointed he didn’t see any stabbings, 😎)

Probably the most dangerous locale on the schedule. The couch is beyond a doubt your best and safest bet IMO. Horrible area.

You guys sound like the typical suburban yuppies. I've been going to the Oakland and SF Supercross races for years. My Dad's company had season tickets to the A's for years, not to mention my buddies and I would go buy bombsacks (weed) on Golf links and 98th streets daily in our teens. Never had one problem. You guys make Oakland sound like a 3rd world country. Lol yes your car might get stolen or broken into, or in ML512's case get threatened with a knife. But it is like that in any major city. Oakland in the mid to early 2000's was sketchy. Present day Oakland has nothing on the old days. Plus the stadium is big and makes for an excellent Supercross track.

Mid level not lower is the best imo. When you get above the track you can see everything. Upper level feels a bit too far but you can see everything and best for budget

Third world country? I would describe it more like a refugee camp, but without the security and fences.

That BART ride from East Bay into the city is tragic,  I did it for years and it's hard to comprehend how bad the homeless problem is. 

I did jury duty in Oakland, and nearly got mugged outside the court house, Lol.
