My health insurance is between 4 and 5 hundy a month for a family of 4.

When we get sick we pay to go to the doctor, BFD.
basically major medical.

How much cheaper can it get?
125 a month per person seems like a good deal to me.

It's funny but I don't see many people driving around in a POS like I drive.

500 bucks a month would of gotten me a new truck with the cash for clunkers program but I passed.

You must not live where I live. Plenty of people drive around in junk, and can't afford health care, all at the same time.

What is funny is rat hates poor people. yet he's....lmao....in the same fucking boat as me....we're fucked rat. hehehe

the real funny thing is you are paying ten times what you should be paying and were paying less than 10 years ago. that is what obama is talking about...i really don't think obama or anybody in the whitehouse (bush or otherwise) is trying to get rich from health care reform...are they? they just are trying to do what the constituents want...no?

You also realize, Rat, that insurance premiums vary from state to state and because of the laws and monopolies, I can't buy my health insurance in Georgia where it will be cheaper for use in Florida....and if I move from Florida, I can't take my insurance with me. So I have to start all over and am beholden to the whims of the insurers within that new state, even though my health is unchanged, my rates will be different

I'm sure their are a lot of people who did the clunker program that probably shouldn't have, but their a also millions of people that can't afford to keep paying for the ever increasing health care problem that is going on.

Thing is Rat, if my wife and I lost our insurance, which can happen, I don't think we could get coverage not matter the cost. Or at least anything that would cover what we needed it for. We needed gap coverage a couple years ago. It was sold on a day by day basis for a limited time. Cost us about $350 a month, had a $3000 deductable and wouldn't cover any pre-existing conditions, (not good for 55 year olds) . It was only useful is we got in some kind of accident. That is unless the company could find some kind of mistake in how we filled out the app.

Sounds like you got a pretty good set up, $500 for a family, depending on your coverage.
If that was available to everybody it would solve a fair amount of the problem. But it's not.

"If" and "I don't think" are not good enough arguments for me to turn over my health care to the government.

The system need some tweaking not an overhaul is my point.

And, my wife brought up, our 450 a month also includes a 150K term life insurance for me.

Nobody's asking you to turn it over to the government. You're just buying the crap some of these guys are handing out. The purpose make sure everybody can get some coverage. We've got great coverage right now and if this proposal meant we'd have to lose it I'd be against it too. But it doesn't.

Bullshit. The public option is the thin end of the wedge.

Insurance is available, if you want it. Is it free? NO. Will it be cheaper once the government gets it's paws into it? Not if you pay tax it won't.

So you have your's and that's all the matters?

My family and I are well insured but you had better hope you don't ever get into some type of major medical situation because you might find that your insurance isn't what you thought it was.

Why do you think we keep having all these fund raisers for hurt riders even though they're insured?
Because they limit your coverage
Why do you think so many who are insured, paid their premiums for years, all of the sudden are broke or bankrupt because of a catastrophic injury or illness?
Because they limit your coverage....just cut you off mid-treatment

"Sorry, your coverage has run out, you've reached your limit...we won't help you any more"

This number is what bothers me. It never changes. It seems to have remained and vacillated between 43 and 47 million for the past 5 years or so. It would seem to me with health care cost rising at approx 15% a year and reports of more and more employers not offering healthcare that those numbers would be much higher than they were just a few years ago. Anybody have any ideas as to why this number isnt growing?

If it's anything like the Veterans health care we are screwed. My Dad screwed his back up a few years ago, they said it would be 2 months before he could see a doctor. He went out and bought his own INS and doesn't even use his free healthcare. Spin that one.

price gouging is illegal....it happens but it is still illegal. so should being dropped for having a chronic health issue and god forbid if you or your family gets sick, has a terminal or chronic deal and the insurance sez fuck you. you lose yer house, you lose yer marriage you lose yer life...whatever. this whole debate isn't just over who has insurance and who doesn't...holy fuck man.

Perhaps it depends on the Hospital. I started using the VA system here in California (Loma Linda VA) a few years ago. Ive been to the Hospital for various test etc and Ive always been treated great. Maybe Ive just been lucky. Which for me is fantastic as I can no longer afford to self insure myself as Im over 50 and the cost are well outside my ability to pay.

That said I think the VA is its own animal. Its patients all have something in common. Were all Brothers and sisters. All of us served and many of us fought. What other hospital in the World do patients go down hallways nodding and acknowliging one another? Kinda like "sup bro"? Especially the VN vets.

But to your point my stepdad had cancer back in 1980 and we took him to a VA hospital, it creeped him out and he wanted out of there the next day so we took him out and bankrupt our family business paying for his surgery out of pocket at a private hospital. He died 9 months later anyways.

Spin that one.

The VA health care comes right out of the general budget, which is about dry. Everyone would pay into the new plan.

No spin, just a little common sense.

My brother is a plank-owner and served on the USS Roosevelt. Years afterwards he had a severe grease fire burn on this hand & arm and went to the VA for help. He was appalled at how bad the care was there and how lackadaisical the workers were. Typical government, drag-ass workers who could give-a-shit less and looking at the clock all day waiting for 5pm.
