My little girl is 6 and just started 1st grade. She has always been a quick learner and more than a little precocious. Lately though, it seems like she's grown up 3 years in the last 3 months. She's hit a growth spurt, gotten hers ears pierced( against my wishes) just generally seems and looks older. Combine that with the new back to school clothes and friends and it just all of sudden feels like I'm losing her already.

Question for the guys who have gotten kids through this stage- am I crazy or do these things happen in spurts like this? I don't want her growing up in chunks. I don't really agree with her growing up at all, but certainly no sooner than necessary.

Sure especially when they don't live with you full time. I have 3 of four of my girls coming down to hang out and BBQ today. I sure miss them when they aren't here.

Yeah that's got something to do with it, although she lives about a mile away. I see her several times a week usually. Though sometimes it's week or more

damn Cyg- four girls? I'm surprised you have any hair at all.

Ear piercing isn't that big of deal. The peer group is what you are dealing with, all you can do is stay consistent with your values and beliefs. There are battles that you need to take and some you need to ignore. It is an interesting journey . I looked at it as a narrow chute that keeps widening with age. You are the fence on both sides, sometimes your kid runs into it.

I went away for like 5 days on some race trip to Europe, when I came home, I turned the corner to the kitchen and all I saw was legs and head and I was like "who's that?" and it was my daughter who must've grown a few inches in those couple days

Yes, it happens that fast

I have boys and I don't think it's as big of deal. I do have some close friends with a grand daughter that is seven or eight and even though she isn't mine I still see her growing up way to fast.

Cells phones, clothing that makes her look like a teenager instead of a eight year old.

I would be have been a terrible father if I had girls.

It's tough dealing with 2 philosophies. If you and your ex could get together on that it would help. Sometimes your battle at all cost mindset is also in your kid, my daughter and myself. You have to be the wiser and use that, you will not win them all. My daughter just confessed to us that she used to argue with us just to win, even if she was wrong.

I think you hit on it right there, Jim It's a father daughter thing.

You would have adjusted. When she looks at you and says "I love you daddy" It's all over. Hell
I probably will shell out the cash for her first date if she drops that on me at the right time.

Yep, girls are special. I remember when my daughter asked if she could have something different then a happy meal, I was so shocked. It all go's by so fast.

I was the custodial parent from the time my little girl was 9-10 years old, till she was 18(she's now 29).
I had to talk to her about everything from persistent boys, to her periods. I helped her get ready for all her proms and talked with her prom date. It was such a great experience.

I would say keep an open mind, and let your parental instinct, thats in all of us, take over.

Oh one more thing Dean..... You might wanna listen to her choice of music with her once in awhile. I still remember a little Tupac and Bone Thugs N Harmony.

Ya its tough!

I have a boy(13), and two girls(6 and 3).

I want my boy to be a man but my girls to never grow up!

There is that country song about a guy losing his Cinderella. I know that will be me someday. I cant listen to it without a lump forming in my throat.

My now six year old in the middle and three year old with the blue eyes like dad on the right.
