hey, if the official helping the 30sec card girl knew she botched it, why didn't the officials at the gate know, then hold the gate and restart the process?

As soon as it went sideways, half the riders had heads down and revs up, ready to go. How do you let them know it's goofed up without compromising their start? You don't.

I like the girls at the races but think they need to be on the side lines much like football. You don't see them officiating the coin toss but they are clearly visible for the fans to enjoy. That being said it ain't changing..... they are part of the sponsorship package for Monster and Lucas Oil and get a lot of TV time...... imo

They didn't go a whole lap, they did the first turn and then the sweeper in front of the pits before the flag came out at the finish line. It was a screw-up, nothing more and nothing less. We will try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

If it's contracted that the girl be out there at the start, let a Professional AMA Official hold the card while she stands beside him wagging her ass. All she has to know and do is when she sees the AMA guy run, she runs too! In his direction!!! Problem solved...

A few years ago at Anaheim SX I remember a flag mishap, not just a caution flag, but the checkers or the white flag came out a lap to early?? Where were all you haters then?? I didn't hear on guy saying that a girl should be doing the finish line flag then.

Since you guys are so good at numbers...how many starts have been done by these girls and how many have been screwed up??? I would say THEIR performance rate is alot better than any other track personel out there....hmmmmm Tongue

On a serious note I totally agree that it should be done by some important figure who deserves it. I don't remember the name of that what the guy in the GP doing this, but he's like 60+ and a former pro. Would be cool if they could invite former starts at each event.

I would like to watch Malherbe, Carlqvist, Harry Everts, Rolf Tibblin (insert your own old fart) doing this in the GPs. Would be cool to see how they look today and of course give the some more attention which they for sure deserves. Same goes for AMA of course.

X2....... i learned early on in my racing to be ready for anything at the start........ i was caught sleeping a couple times, after that, you learn that strange things happen, gates are dropped early sometimes, and if you want to win, you gotta be ready to jam pretty much any time you are sitting behind the gate...

Worst idea EVER. I never want to see MC, RC, or Bradshaw holding a 30 second board!!!

Guys she doesn't drop the gate, she holds a sign, she messed up. Move on. In NASCAR they have celebrities throwing the green flag every week. There is a race official right there with them, to make sure everything is a go. I don't know why the guy in the dog house doesn't give the card girl a sign.

That last sentence makes alot of sense! Really he should be the time keeper- and when the time is right, switch a light from red (2 minutes) to yellow (30 seconds) to Green ( card goes sideways- move your ass bitch!). That is pretty much foolproof.
