$1000 Reward for Willy Brownings Bike

Man this sucks! I don't have a 250F but if I did, I would give it to Willie to ride the last rounds with if he don't get his bike back.

Bob, I really feel for you guys.

You have been helping Willy out so much this year, and his results have really shown it!

When I talked to Willy last night, the first thing he said was "I loved that bike!".

It takes a long time for a national caliber rider to get things all set up properly and to get them to feel comfortable/confident with their bikes!

Wish we could help more! I'll keep an entry for Willy and Ben in our news section on the site, and I'll get permission to post it on the RG3 sites around the country. Willy has had quite the year!

Another thing that will stand out is the transponder (small red timing device) mounted on the upper part of the left front fork. I would imagine the person who stole it will remove the transponder and possibly try to sell it so keep an eye out for a used transponder for sale as well to maybe track the theif. Not much to go on but just a thought. Hope willy gets his bike back.

I really feel bad for these guys, and angry that this happened, but if you think the promoter or the track owner has any responsibility to replace these bikes you are off your nut. Can you explain to me how they possibly could be responsible for 100% of the millions of dollars in equipment in a pro pit area?

If they were, do you think anyone would be setting up their own scams where they have a non existent bike stolen so they can get a nice new free one or would everyone run on the "honor system"?? Or maybe just leave the old blister practice bike out by the fence to be replaced the next day with a brand new one from the Bike Fairy? What about storm damage, or maybe they should have to pay for all the engines that blow up on race day? DC could buy a semi truck and fill it with bikes and parts for all the guys that break stuff.

Think I'll haul out the old roached out CR250 and try to qualify for Budds Creek on my new CRF450!!

Unreal what people do these days. Keep your eyes peeled on eBay and at the tracks. I just spoke with privateer racer #767 Matt Sheafor, he was pitted next to Willy B. Fortunately for him he only had his gear bag stolen like many others in the area. But it's still a shame when these guys have custom fitted knee braces, wrist braces, and special protective gear that can't easily be replaced. What is wrong with people? Ahhhhh Here's to hoping Willy and Ben Lamay get some justice!

Your logic is flawed to say the least. Pro race or amateur, it is preposterous to expect the promoter to be liable for any and all things that happen at a event. It's bad enough that some fucking scumbags sue the track when they get hurt, but now you want them to pay for stolen bikes as well?? Get real!

You are a wise oldfart, I completely agree with you, which is why I sent an e-mail to MX Sports asking them to acknowledge these bikes were stolen at the event they promoted and provided security for and step up and do the right thing for these riders and their fans!

You are a lost cause. lol.

Does no one else have insurance for their bikes? Mine gets stolen and I get a new one.

@Bob/Willy - We let our service centers know about suspicious diamond kit. We are working on getting the numbers that are punched on the suspension for you (Incase it shows up on the market).

Mr. Murray, and others, in the future, you mih=ght want to look into this. I saw your thread the other day, and it reminded me my friend has a company which manufactures portable security devices. I wish you the best in recovery of the bike!

whew...some good news, finally.

Although the stealing really sucks, this is a question every racer should be able to answer "yes" too.

We have 3 race bikes at home. I pay less than $200.00 a year for theft coverage on the lot of them.

The bikes are not covered under any homeowners policy, or anything outside of a stand alone policy for theft. Covers them anywhere. At the track, on the road, in your shop or trailer anywhere.

Every racer should have this. But you have to be sure you get the correct coverage.

Here's the official stuff from MX Sports...


This past weekend, thieves broke into the Unadilla MX pro paddock and stole two unsecured race bikes, as well as select pieces of Motocross and Off-Road riding and safety equipment. The motorcycles stolen belonged to privateers Ben Lamay and Willy Browning. MX Sports and the Unadilla race organizers are asking for the public’s help in locating these stolen items.

Ben Lamay's 2009 YZ450F has a vehicle ID number of JYACJ10C29A038827. Some unique features on this bike include a rare Dr. D header pipe that has what resembles a handle. In addition, the clutch cover and ignition cover are sandblasted and the number plates are heavily trimmed for better airflow. Finally, the radiators have corner-welded gussets that have been heavily strengthened. The bike also has distinct blue RG3 triple clamps and blue ASV levers. Thieves were able to remove the motorcycle from the Lamays’ trailer.

Willy Browning's 2009 Honda CRF250 has a vehicle ID number of JH2ME10J89K501438. The bike is unique in that is has lower fork sliders that have black diamond coating and the rear shock reservoir is all black.

In addition to the two bikes stolen, the thieves were also able to steal equipment belonging to riders Corey Pennington, Jeff Luke and Nick Sanchez.

The thefts have been reported to the New York State Police and an investigation is in process. They took place during the overnight hours on Friday August 14th and occurred in the Pro Paddock, despite significant overnight security and fencing.

“Motocross is a small community and we hope that by increasing awareness in the public that our odds of recovery will increase. We urge all fans, dealers and riders to keep an eye out for these items” said Carrie Russell, Vice President of MX Sports. “We cannot and absolutely will not tolerate theft at our races. We will do all we can to help these riders and teams recover their stolen equipment.”
