YZ465 front fork and wheel question

Hello everyone, I have a 1980 YZ465 currently under restoration. Someone took the dual leading front brake shoe plate off and replaced it with the single version, so I have been looking for a backing plate. I managed to find a 1982 YZ250 that I could use for parts. The 250 has the 43mm forks with the dual leading drum which is a bonus, plus has the gold wheels. If all this fits it would give me lots of parts to use as upgrades. Would I be able to swap the triples and forks from the 250 to the 465? Also, would the rear wheel be compatible? I was under the understanding that the 250 and 465/490 shared the same chassis, but thought I would confirm here. Thanks in advance!!

Im sure it wouldnt be that far off. I would think of spring rates for the bigger engine weight.

The 80 YZ465 came with mostly 38mm forks and the single pull front brake. Some later bikes got 43mm forks but still the single leading shoe brake. All the parts from the 82 front end will bolt right on. If you can find a set of top clamps from the 83/84 490s those are rubber mounted and vertical which help with vibration and more cockpit room.

Out back the 81+ rear ends got a bigger axle and smaller brake plate on the 250s. To run it on your 80 465 you'd need the 81 swingarm, axle and adjusters.

Good luck!

Wow that was some GREAT information thanks so much. My 1980 has the single leading shoe and I thought someone took the dual plate off of it. From what you are saying it probably came that way from the factory.
