So I sold my 76 wr250 because I was tired of messing with the bike… now I ended up buying this ktm about a week ago. This bike is actually not as bad as it seems considering the guy already did a decent amount of motor work. The bearings are all still in good shape and most of the parts are there. The frame is a mess but other than that it just needs some cleaning and a few other parts and it’ll be ready to go! Here are a few pics of the bike and I already got a lot of work done too

A few shots of what has been done so far. I will take some pictures of the cylinder and head when I get the needle bearing for the wrist pin

Is that still a Magnesium Clutch Cover or Aluminium ?
André Horvarth from Enduro Klassiker has some Aluminium Clutch Cover from the pre 1990 Models in Stock

That Pipe looks amazing what Brand is That?

Nice you have a Z Racing pipe for it. The motor might be an 1988 but the rest of it is a 1990. Calipers, hubs & seat cover are a dead giveaway.

Yeah I’ve been looking at it and it seems kinda odd… the vin number on the frame says it is a 1988. I do think someone might have painted the calipers or switched some parts. It also has the 88’ gas tank which is weird with a 1990 seat cover. Also I believe the cylinder could be off of a 1990 because of the radiator hoses and where the fitting is moonted on the cylinder

The clutch cover is aluminum based on the way it looked when I took it off. The pipe is a Z racing pipe which was a pretty cool peice along with the answer racing silencer!

Yeah it’s definitely a big problem with water cooled bikes to have a magnesium cover hahaha I had an 86 cr250 with that problem

Haven’t posted in a while about the ktm but getting down to the last few parts of the bike and I have it running real good… I still need a few other small parts because of the condition of the bike when I bought it. I ended up having to rebuild the crank because of a bad con rod bearing and also have the cylinder re done along with the head. The seat cover was from mastercross which took forever. Now waiting on a clutch and rear master cylinder rebuild.also need some small bits and peices.other than that the bike is complete and I’m pretty dang happy with this one! I’ll probably end up putting some new Hoosiers (i know the original chesterfield bikes ran pirellis) however I am not going for a full on replica build.definitely a keeper!!

Great job so far on a classic.

But please, do something about the "Larry Loopout" rear fender positioning. It's only a matter of a degree, or two / three/ four, but it really spoils your great work. A new Acerbis Nost fender costs buggerall, if you can't do a repositioning of the fender you've now got mounted.

Got the clutch in and finally rode the bike. Quickly realized this bike cannot run on 32:1(all I had on hand tj start the bike at the time) now I am running 60:1 recommended by Andre horvath’s ktm. The bike was leaking tons of oil from the silencer but should be fine now. Also rode the bike and still need a rear master cylinder and brake line. Also gonna get a few other new parts… front fender support, rear fender, Hoosiers, etc… overall happy with the bike so far but definitely going to do more. This has been my favorite bike I’ve owned even after riding it once. Also need to get a silencer for track riding.

Here is my 93’ cr250 before and after along with the ktm. Both are huge differences but considering the Ktm was in way worse condition I would say it has turned out just as good so far. My 93’ cr was complete whereas the ktm was missing many parts and has made it harder to get it running. Especially because of all of the missing hardware and small engine parts. Still ordering some more Allen had screws for the bike and a few other things.

I will also order this number plate instead of the dc plastics plate. Looks like much better quality.

Yeah definitely will make a difference in the look of the bike. And the number plate does not fit very good on the bike. Is your fender oem?

For this bike I have been able to get everything… con rod was from andres ktm and and the bearing was from bike buzzard on eBay… for bearings I got them from a local bearing supply. I have been looking at a lot of other parts and everything I could want for this bike is pretty much available. I also got the paint from lvp which was really easy. The graphics were evo mx and mastercross seat. So far it has been a really fun bike… I also bought a new head for it and it came with a new cylinder which was from andres ktm.

The frame color is RAL 2002… it matches perfectly! And yeah that must make it much easier to keep that ktm running because I will probably start buying extra parts when I start riding it. I know that I will definitely need spare parts

I leave there a lot of money 😂

Where do you found those Chesterfield Graphics?
I get the Chesterfield Design from Mastercross for the 250 but I looks different to yours?
