Colorado Downhill Mountain Biking

Edited Date/Time 7/21/2022 10:42am
I will be in Breckinridge, Co from 8/6-8/12 and I’m wanting to try DH. Never done it before and its a bucket list item I want to check off. Hoping someone could point me to a spot where I could rent a bike and ride for the day. I know I can do it in Breckinridge but figured there may be better spots that wont be so crowded with hikers.

Peak 8 drops in at, well, peak 8 and drains down to Frisco. Jump the bus back up and do it again, or turn around and grunt your way back. Either way it’s a hell of a trail. There are several shops in town that rent bikes

Keystone bike park for lift service and a variety of trails. It's been 5 or so years since I was there but I think that's your closest option for the full park experience

Sure does.
If the hour plus drive from Breckenridge isn't an issue, that's maybe a little wider range of trail options.

An hour is a short drive for some fun. I’ll be sure to look into it. Appreciate the leads guys.

Generally speaking Keystone is more natural gnar and Winter park is more groomed "flow trails".
Many trails to ride so ideally I would ride both to round out your bucket list experience.
I've done both many times and good times for sure!

One more point.
If your a decent moto rider you should skip the easy trails and go for the double blacks. Tons of high speed booters, rock gardens etc to send it.
The thin air gonna put a whooping on you so be smart about what you ride and take time to look at the big features before you hit it.
Good DownHill riding is very addictive

Did my first big downhill at winter park a couple years ago. Unlike anything I’ve ever imagined being from MI. it was like riding in a Red Bull video.

Yep, I found a guy that pulled me through a run, and saved a lot of “learning”.

Sounds like winter park is the spot for me. Really wanted to find something that flowed really well since that’s generally the moto tracks I like the best.

Trestle is super fun! My son and I have passes there. Book your bike rental online before you go. I've heard of them running out of bikes to rent. Also go during the week, a lot less people than the weekends.

Here's a short video of the gap jumps on Happier Camper.

Ive been biking at keystone, great place to ride.

There are a few rental shops from dillon up to keystone, not sure how pricing compares to keystone itself though.

Thanks lostboy and cjmx.
This badboy has made countless trips down the mountain and sometimes I was still on the bike when it got there. Cool

buddy of mine is headed to Winter Park for a few days, i want to try to go next year.

if you ever make it to Utah, head to Deer Valley in Park City, they have a bitchin' downhill trail system and it's right in the ski resort so it's like a little town in the middle of the mountain. make a couple runs, have a couple beers, make a couple runs, etc... good stuff
