M5B or a scoop tire for PNW mud racing

I've got a race coming up this weekend AMA WHS and it's going to be a mudder. Everyone raves about the IRC M5B, but lately the scoop tires have been getting more attention. The course is going to be tight woods with roots, not a lot of elevation change and short stints on a clay based mx track. The track will most likely be dried out and hardpack, but the woods will be muddy. Leaning towards the M5B rear, MX33 front, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

The mx12 won't have the best traction in turns without ruts, especially if something is dried out.

At this point, you might consider something from SeaDoo or Bayliner lol

M5B is legit in mud/ sand and works ok in dry hard pack if it has to. It is not a fun tire on wet roots, wet rocks, and greasy/slimy hard packed tracks in my experience. I would run the IRC i07 if it was me.

Scoop tires are not very good on hard slick. They are for churning through deep sand/mud which also means ruts so the lack of side bite does not bite you in the ass. I think they will struggle if you have a lot of exposed roots but if everything else is deep slop you may be willing to just take the penalty for roots.

Thanks for the recommendations. Ended up going with the mx33 front and M5B rear. Forecast for Bellingham WA looks wet the rest of this week, so guess I'll find out on Sunday if I made the right choice. Now just gotta prep roll-offs, man mud races are a lot of work before and after.

Have fun! We ran the washougal regional a couple weeks ago. It was muddy and tough but really fun.
